DCK Left Because We Are Outside & " It’s Too Cold Out"

So DCD shows w DCK 8mo. We are outside. He says, are you going to be outside today?
    ()
Its 41 and overcast. no wind, feels like 50. But also school vacation so there's 3 extra crazy SA kids. Every kid here is happy to be outside and so am I.
DCK has no coat, no hat, Capri pants on
    ()
I say yes. Does she have a blanket or something? Dad says no, I didn't think you'd be outside cuz its so cold. I say well we will only be out for another half hr for now then we can go inside for her nap. He says well DCG isn't feeling well so I don't want her out here (:confused I ssay, well, unfortunately there are other kids here. I can find her a blanket and a hat. I go in and get it but dad says he is leaving, since DCK has a runny nose and hasn't been well.
    .:::confused:
I'm annoyed and think its funny at the same time. Did DCD actually expect me to tell 8 kids they had to spend the day inside? This is daycare, I'm not your nanny.
Not only that but why are you bringing a sick kid?
These peep are paid through for another month. Do you think they will leave after that? Should I even care? I don't need overprotective parents, or parents who think they can tell me what to do.
I did kind of feel bad and almost offered up a different day (they are part time). But I'm glad I didn't.

A few weeks ago I had a DCD tell me his daughter needed to stay in when we went outside. I'm guessing he thought since we had two employees, that one could stay in with his daughter ?!? So then the other person would have to manage 11 children alone ? Umm. Not going to happen.

The same week I had a DCM brig DCg (who had pneumonia the week earlier) in and say that if it happened to be nice enough to go outside that day, could we call her to come get DCG. At least she understood that we can't keep one child inside, and shouldn't have to all stay inside due to one child.

      Seriously?
One of the first things I though was "If it's so cold, why is she coming with no jacket and capris?
Second thought I had "Why is she coming if she's sick?"
Glad you didn't offer up a different day! Good for you! And no, it's doesn't mean they will leave. I'm guessing this is their first baby? They will complain to other parent friends who will tell them you are great and to consider themselves lucky!
Or maybe they will decide they can work their work schedules around each other to take care of baby and will leave.

It sounds to me like he was feeling guilty for bringing her sick and seeing you all outside pushed him into doing the right thing and taking his sick kid home.

If she is "so sick" why are they bringing her? & 40/50 degree weather is perfectly fine to be outside in so long as a child is dressed appropriately. Some parents . . .ugh. It is 56 here, supposed to reach 70 today & the kids & I are headed for a walk at the bike/walking trail - so excited to be able to get outside & soak in the sun!!!

See, I would have to agree with the parent. I don't let mine out the door until it hits 90. (Just kidding, 60* is my limit for the older kids) I am not a cold weather person. We don't go outside if we have to put jackets on. It's 56* outside right now and I'm cold.

We had something similar happen ( I work at a center). Mom *thought* DCB may be catching pnemonia so she asked if we could keep DCB inside. It was 40 degrees outside. Of course we had to tell her that we couldn't keep him inside because we'd be out of ratio and that she signed the paperwork that kids must do outdoor play if weather permits. DCB stayed and went outside and had a blast. And nope...he just had a little bit of the sniffles- not pnemonia

We only go out when it is above 10 degrees. Seriously if I had that 60 degree rule here in Montana the kids would only go out 3 months out of the year.

See we have to go outside daily, according to licenseing regulations, if weather permits (which can be loosely interpreted). I have decided that 40 is my minimum temp for going outside - although I would much prefer 50, but I don't think 40 degrees "poses a risk" so I don't think it would slide win licensing.

Sometimes I even feel guilty for having it so high at 40, because the childcare weather watch chart seems to think 20/30 is a perfectly fine temperature to take them outside. I just can't do it, I am miserable.

I gotta be honest, I read your post and was like "WHAAAAAT?!" Then I saw you're from California!!::

I'm in upstate NY and parents would be furious if we stayed in on a 40 or 50 degree day. It would mean being inside most of the year.

Right? If they think it's cold, dress her appropriately. Why does he even think it's an option?

I had a girl who would "dress herself" in summer clothes right in the middle of winter. She'd come in wearing a coat, but they'd take her coat off, and she had a sun dress on. The rest of us were bundled up in layers, and she'd have a sundress and sandals.

The Dad would always wonder why I kept the house so cold. "Because it's JANUARY".

My policies CLEARLY state that if you feel your child is too sick/ill to go outside, they are too sick/ill to be at child care.

It doesn't matter what the temp is outside.

                              And that is your choice.
                              Think of it this way....
What if a parent came and said Its 45 and warm enough to play, you need to bring DCK outside today
