    Christmas Presents from Parents

I had to tell everyone about what one of my daycare moms is doing for me for Christmas. Every day until I close next Friday (I'm taking the week of Christmas off since we're leaving town) she is bringing me a small gift. Today it was mint chocolate covered marshmallows from Trader Joes. I thought this was such a cute idea! Has anyone else gotten some fun presents from daycare parents? I found lots of ideas on Pinterest for my son's teachers. =)

      That's very nice!

I've only ever gotten wine, coffee etc. I was very happy tho when one of my DCP's also brought a gift each for my own children which I thought was very thoughtful!

My best present ever was a sweatshirt one of my mom's made. I was going through chemo and she came over while I was gone and made a sweatshirt with all the kids handprints on it. I loved that sweatshirt so much that I still have it 21 yrs later.

I prefer cash I know I am spoiled because last year all of my daycare parents give me a week of daycare payment as a bonus!

Do providers usually just get small presents as the previous posters have mentioned? Do any of you get bonuses from you parents? If so, percentage-wise, how does it compare to your weekly rate?

I'm asking as a parent. I have read that nannies typically get a bonus equal to one week's pay. I feel my provider is somewhere between a nanny and a home daycare because she only cares for my daughter part-time and an infant part-time so it's not like she has 6-8 familes that each give her a $10-$20 gift. She's fantastic, regularly goes above-and-beyond and treats my daughter like a member of the family.

I was planning to give her a $50-$100 gift card to Target along with a Christmas/thank you card (amount depends on if/when/how much my Christmas bonus is this year). If it affects your opinion, we pay her $120/3-day week.

I also purchased a personalized blanket for each of her sons from the Disney Store, with a matching hardcover book and a matching stuffed animal, which is going to be "from my daughter."

Would that be appropriate? Any suggestions?

I have always heard that nannies get two weeks paid, home daycare providers get one week paid. Normally at centers, there isnt just one teacher per room so a lot of parents buy something for the classes use or do small gift cards for each teacher that their child works with ....like $10 Starbucks cards or something.

I do receive bonuses from my families but have never received gifts for my children.

I think you are giving her a great gift! I know I really appreciated the gifts that were given to my children too and what you have planned is very thoughtful!

As for a base in regards to money as a bonus/gift, which I have never gotten BTW, it's one weeks pay for daycare providers from what I have read.

I think those sounds like nice gifts for your provider Mommy2One.

I usually get gifts from the parents like gift certificates to restaurants, Starbucks, etc. Usually for around $50. I have never one time in 21 years received a weeks pay.

When my little sisters were in daycare 20 years ago my mother told me she heard on Opera that you were suppose to give daycare providers a week worth of pay as a Christmas gift. I always did the same when my own children attended daycare. I gave more when my daughter only attended part time. I have been in business for 4 years in Jan. I was closed due to a maternity leave one year, but I never have received a weeks worth of pay as a bonus. I have gotten gifts and gift cards equaling about 1/4 to 1/2 weeks pay. Most of my families this year are struggling. I know 2 of them qualify for daycare assistance, but sense I don't accept it they have chosen not to go else where. One of my better off families in the past has given me as small gift and cookies. But this family gives me gifts though out the year as tokens of appreciation. They get a gift for each on of my children on their birthdays(this year they even gave my 14 year old a $25 gift card) and gave me a generous $50 gift card to the salon. Every holiday valentines day, mothers day, Thanksgiving, ect they get some small gift with a wonderful hand written letter of appreciation. I think what you have planned is wonderful. Personally do what you want. I wouldn't want someone to give a gift that they felt like they had to give me or that they couldn't afford. I know one mom that told me after Thanksgiving that she only had $30 to spend on each of her children for Christmas. I know that these children have Christmas with there dad and generous grandparents, aunt and uncles so if they get me anything other than a hand made card from the kids this year I'll feel awful.

A week's pay seems to be becoming more common in my area. 10 years ago I would never have received that much from any family, but in the past few years I've received it more and more - last year all but 1 family gave me that amount.

As a provider, I think this is VERY sweet to include her children. My own kids get overlooked SO OFTEN. We had a homemade card exchange and nobody brought them cards (except one family) My 4 year old was heartbroken!

I think half your weekly rate ($50 is FINE!) and a thank you card would make her day!

We are lucky if we get anything for Christmas, so I appreciate anything I get. Last year I got a homemade ornament (which I love btw) from one child, and a gift bag with lotion and fuzzy socks from another. A couple of our parents will buy doughnuts or bagels for the whole staff.
