    Laundry

Do you wash the kids' clothes from accidents or send them home? I've always washed them myself. I figure I''m washing the peed on nap mat anyway. Furthermore, I want to be sure the child has extra clothes here, which I sadly cannot count on.

Recently I drew the line and sent poopy clothes home from a SEVEN YEAR OLD who refuses to go to the toilet if he doesn't feel like it. (an ongoing saga for which I should have terminated long ago but now he is only here on breaks from school and is doing better sort of so I deal with it). I was not going to deal with all of that.

I handed them the bag of poopy clothes and they looked at me as if I had some nerve.

They still don't bring any extra clothes or undies for him and I just let it go because I do have plenty...but then my spares are getting sent home never to be seen again (gross).

This is coming from a sibling group that has taken forever to potty train totally due to the inconsistencies on their parents part. (using pull ups way too long for one).

    *Growl*

I've been stuck in the house for two rainy days...and working 4:40 - 5:45...this definitely turned into a vent, sorry.

Yes I do laundry constantly so it's no biggie to me. If I can get it done before they leave I switch it back.

No I don't wash their clothes. Who knows if the child will have a reaction to my laundry detergent?! I do exactly what you did. Put it in a bag and gave it to the parents. That's what my own children's provider did when I was a teacher. Not a big deal. And for a 7 year old to do that?! Um yeah. Sorry. NOT washing it.

I send home all dirty laundry. I have one load of laundry I do Fridays of daycare laundry so if it happened on Friday, sure I would wash it. I make sure to send NOTE saying need new clothes and will even send a text in the morning if they are absent minded. I havent had to do that in years though.

I will rinse out the clothes but no washing here. BUT i would not accept the 7 year old back until they leave 2 pants/undies or pull ups with you. And if he did on purpose I woudl seriously put him in a pull up.

It's a trip, he doesn't care....and even with a pull up, I'd still have to change it.

I wash them. Easier for my piece of mind knowing that they will stay here. This way I don't have to remind, chase or turn parents away at the door when they show up not having enough supplies.

I have a family of 5, so I am always washing clothes during nap time.

              Yikes!

At least a pull up wont get the pee or poop all over the place!?

I wash things if they will be ready to go by the end of the day. Otherwise I send them home in a bag.

Yikes 7 yrs old and still crapping his pants!!!

I think hes old enough to clean it himself, or sit in it. Outside.

My dd is 10 and wet the bed until she was 8. I told her she needed to do her own laundry and change herself when that happend. ( I know its not her fault). But she was old enough to understand to clean it up.

I dont do poopy laundry even from an infants leaky diaper. I bag it up.

If Im doing laundry I will launder toddler wet clothes. Even though I dont think per licensing Im supposed too. But If Im already laundering their wet nap blanket may as well launder the clothes too!

I give him a handful of baby wipes, clean underwear and a plastic bag and tell him to go take care of it.

During the summer when he was full out pooping his pants (now it's just a little bit) I had to help him, there was no way he could have handled it and not gotten poop all over my bathroom . (gag) I save the lecture. I am beside myself with this issue. He gets stickers and charts and spankings at home.

I was at my wits end, actually one day over the summer. It was the second time that day he'd full on pooped his pants and I was in the midst of getting lunch on the table (you know how crazy that time of day is). I told his dad I could not deal with it. (I knew dad was getting off work during that time anyway...even though they don't pick up til 5-5:30....) He was like "Ok but I'm just getting on the highway, gotta stop at home blah blah blah) Meantime dcb is sitting there in poopy pants hungry and tired. I called back and said "forget it, I"ll take care of it" Second shower of the day. This summer nearly killed me with that.

So, yeah, I'm a pushover, but let him stand in the kitchen for an hour while waiting for dad?

I did draw the line with dealing with that laundry though.

I'm sorry, but at 7, that's even beyond my limit.

I often washed the kids clothes. My kids have always come in pjs. I would wash them up and send all the clothes home on Friday.

Today, I just bagged up all of my 8 yos pjs to send home tonight. He comes at 5 AM and goes back to sleep.

I launder if it will be done by the end of the day. I have a load of daycare bibs, wash clothes, and hand towels every day and I do daycare bedding 3 out of the 5 days. It can go in with one of those loads. All my parents bring a diaper bag yet, so I put the clean clothes in there with a note. One of my DCB's has sensitive skin so I write down what kind of detergent I use.

Wow im not sure i could handle a 7 year old doing that. Have they ruled out medical reasons for this? Does he have some sort of disability?

My licensing doesnt allow it, so any soiled clothes go in a plastic bag and home with the mom. I do use spray and wash if its a stain on a shirt, so the stain doesnt set in the clothes.

I just blame it on licensing, and tell them that I am not allowed to wash clothing, and its never been an issue. Parents understand, and know its not because I am lazy.

The issue with licensing is two things, one its unsanitary for me to wash soiled clothes, and two, the laundry in my home is upstairs, and my second level of my home isnt inspected for daycare, only my main level, so kids are not allowed upstairs. I could run upstairs during naptime to wash clothes, but I am not allowed to leave the main floor if kids are here, so therefore I can not go upstairs to do laundry.

I was wondering the same thing. My son had encopresis. He didn't realize he had to poop until it was too late. Since he's over the age of four, I'd ask the parents to speak with his dr. about the possibility.

Oh, in answer to the original question...sometimes I do send soiled clothing through the washing machine but not often - only when I have nothing else to change the child into for the day. I usually bag everything up and and send it home for the parents to deal with. When I first got my day care license, I took a couple of training workshops on health and sanitation issues. Their recommendation was to double bag the clothing and send it home. It's considered a bio-hazard.
