My first thought when I read her email to you was that she thinks she might have been caught, but isn't postitive, so she's taking what you said to her, and trying to save face with it. I think maybe her conscience might have been bothering her about lying, and when you mentioned that "time spent with her kids", she figured she better start picking up on time again, since she isn't really working. My next thought is that if she wants to leave them late occasionally, make sure you have it in her contract that she has to give you notice (however much you need), and that the rate for daycare outside of your normal hours are $x per hr. If she ends up "not needing you after all" that day, and doesn't let you know til the last minute, still charge that "outside hours" fee (since you planned your day and schedule around her's). I can just see her taking advantage, and you having to arrange your life around her's, just in case she might need you late that night. Or not making plans that you could have, because you were supposed to watch her children late, only for her to pick up on time that day (when you COULD have made plans had you known sooner that she would be on time).
Good luck! Hopefully she follows through on what she said. Make sure you draw up a new contract for any changes whatsoever.
