There is. Apparently it's used for a bunch of different uses. I was contacted by a woman that was a "friend of a friend" because she had some kind of cancer and was trying an "alternative treatment" that involved using breast milk. She asked if I was willing to sell her my breastmilk but I declined. She was willing to pay $3 an ounce. It's being used more and more for medical purposes. I squirted my son in the eye to cure his clogged tear duct, people use BM to cure conguctivitis, to heal open wounds faster etc etc. I've even heard that people will buy BM to make cheese and sell it for big moolah .

Let's not forget that someone once posted on this forum that they were contacted by a potential client that wanted to know whether the provider offered care to breast fed babies (which she did) and then asked her who's milk it was . Provider told her it would be the mommy's milk and the caller was surprised that the provider sisn't supply it herself and even went to say that the food program said the provider was required to supply it . Do any of you remember that thread ??? People are so strange nowadays.

What else can be passed through breastmilk? Can cancer cells be passed? What if that runs in the donor's family?????

I don't find it gross or disgusting, I find it very unsafe!!!

This is what has always bothered me about it.

I had a dcmom a few years back who produced way more milk than her daughter could ever drink. She found a place online where she sold her breast milk. She made a lot of money too ~ she used to joke that she did it to pay the daycare bill.

        I just read a blog:

        It is about this issue.

IMHO, I am nervous about the infectious disease aspect of it. I know mine cracked and bled several times during the time I breast fed all 3 of my own. Even if they say breast milk is sterile...bloody nipples are not.

I know they did it for hundreds of years. They also did not believe just washing your hands would save lives during surgery.

They are practicing medicine, new discoveries are made all the time...they don't quite have it down yet. ::

Besides..... I am required to have a seperate area for preparing breast milk bottles away from anything the other kids will touch/consume.

I am also required to have a seperate fridge for storing it (even though it is only in our training class/not in our written regs ).

I cant imagine what the regs for actually breast feeding someone elses child would be...

Will they expect me to record what I eat from an approved list then come to inspect me to make sure I am only consuming that?

How can I document the exact number of ounces the infant consumed?

        Sounds exhausting to me...::
        - Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

Also, "back then" they had to have wet nurses because formula wasn't invented yet..There were mothers that couldn't nurse due to medical reasons or the rich who refused to. Babies would have died if they didn't .

I had over 200 oz in my deep freeze because DS never took a bottle. I found a place in CA to donate it to, called Prolacta Bioscience. They make a formula that is given to premature/sick babies in the hospital by feeding tube. There were blood tests and doctor's tests done, so it was all completely safe for these babies. I loved the fact that I helped so many babies just by pumping! I'm hoping when my baby is born and I get my supply back up I can pump and donate more!

I'm not against wet-nursing, but wouldn't do it for anyone. Maybe for a very close friend, if there was an accident or something keeping her from nursing her babes.

Many babies died because of their mothers wet nursing.

Do you really know about the history of wet nursing?

I actually read a lot about it after posting but from what my great grandmother told me, more babies would have died if they didn't have wet nurses.

                  Now that is cool!

I think my initial Ewww was because of the promiscuity of the general population these days and the risk of disease.

I nursed both of my children (one for 12 mos. the other for 18 mos.) so don't think that I'm against BF at all. I'm not.

I think it's a little odd... well very odd. (cuz I was trying not to say "Eww gross")

What if the daycare provider got sick, or for some reason didn't provide enough milk for both babies? Who's baby would go without?

What if one of the infants was sick and wanted to nurse all day? What if the daycare child started biting? Is it the provider's choice to stop nursing? Or is the parent's choice?

I cant imagine doing this, but to each their own. I think donating milk, is different because I assume that some testing is done on the milk, I have no idea on this but I need to google. Straight from mom to another baby who is not yours I can see being a subject in some lifetime movie based on true story in future. Title "mom sues daycare provider for giving her son aids through breastmilk" or something like that.
