I know of a case that was almost not reported that resulted in the children being taken from the mother that often drove drunk and with the children in the car and when CPS confronted her about the situation she told them I will not stop if what I am doing is that wrong you will have to take my children away.

We are talking about children here little human beings that do not have the life skills to stand up for themselves and that is why we as adults in their life must report anything that might be happening so that someone that can stand up for them can get involved.

I agree... I once had a couple who "shotgunned the baby" to help them him with colic.

I had no idea wth that meant so I asked. It is blow-by marijuana.

I made the call and was told they were aware and it was a cultural/religious thing...not to worry.

I left it alone after that. Very overweight pre-teen today, btw...

My daughter used to have a Girl's Night Out with a neighbor girl where the neighbor girls mom was their server and the girls were pampered and served all sorts of ****tails (minus the alcohol). The girls were in elementary school.

I had a dcg once tell me her dad made her get out of the car and left her on the side of the road and she was scared. When I asked her why she said because she was naughty and her dad never came back. After talking with the mom, I found out that she was left on the driveway to wait for the bus with 10 other kids like she normally was! Sometimes kid say things that they know will get a reaction. I questioned this girl and never did she say where, why and what the other details were. Just that it happened yesterday and her dad was mad and every time he is mad he leaves her on the side of the road somewhere.

Had I not had an open discussion with both parents, I wouldn't have known anything besides what this child told me. I document everything now and talk with the parent the first chance I get.

This is all good reason to have open communitcation and a good relationship wiht your dc families. It is important for us to know them and what kind of people they are for many reasons.
Agreed. If I called CPS every time a child told me a story, I would be calling once a week. One of my two year old girls recently had a scratch (clearly from a puppy or kitten) on her neck and she told me her daddy hit her. I asked her mother about the scratch and it was from their puppy. I know this family very well and there is NO way the daddy would hit (or scratch) his little girl.

Oh, and one of my older boys told me the scratches on his knees were from falling in a volcano of hot lava. LOL!!!

Now... If I didn't know a family well or if I had a suspicion that ANYTHING odd was going on, I would absolutely call CPS. That's my job.

I totally would have thought that meant "put him in the front seat".

            I'm so uncool.

Right on. That is the difference between calling or not calling.

I must be uncool to when I first read it I thought it had something to do with a firearm. Then again maybe that is just the military wife part of me.

That was my first thought too as a gun enthusiast/collector.

                            Wait until you see "cupping".

It is also a cultural/religious thing. Using actual flame and a cup on a child chest for flu/pneumonia/bronchitis.... It leaves little 1st degree burns/bruises/blisters in a perfect circle and will FREAK you out if you have never seen it.

I was fortunate and was pre-warned on it.
