I know this girl...she's a friend of a friend. She had an unplanned pregnancy and knew I did daycare. She wanted to start talking to me about daycare and I told her the same I do with everyone..."Contact me in your last trimester." I don't waste time on people needing childcare in 8-10 months.
So in April she contacted me saying she was sorry to keep me hanging but they selected her bf's sister to watch the baby. No skin off my back. No problem, no issue, no big deal. It didn't affect me either way.
So she has the baby the end of May and contacts me June 6th asking if I still had a spot, which I did. She wanted to talk dollars and cents so I told her what I'd charge, the deposit, etc. I gave her my website and told her that if she was interested to let me know and we'd schedule a time to get together.
We originally scheduled for July 11th but that didn't work out for her and it worked out for me to reschedule too so we met on July 12th. I went over all the information with her and her bf. She said she wanted to talk to her bf that night and they'd let me know but she was pretty sure it was a done deal. She contacted me the next day and came by with the deposit. I gave her a receipt that has her name, the date, that it is for the last 2 weeks of daycare and that it's NON REFUNDABLE. (in all capital letters)
I email her today to confirm that August 1 is still the start date and that the times are 745am to 530pm. I also asked her if she was going to supply bottles each day or if she was going to keep a canister of formula here with a couple bottles.
I also told her that I was sorry for the short notice but my son has an appointment to have a mole surgically removed on August 2nd at 315 and that I couldn't imagine being more than an hour. I told her that she could keep her child here with my assistant or she could arrange an earlier pick up. I also mentioned to her that usually my husband takes all the kids to appointments but this is a doctor my son has never seen before so I need to fill out all the necessary paperwork.
I get an email back from her saying that she doesn't want to ruin our friendship (not that it's much of one anyway. I only see her twice a year maybe.) She said that she's decided to have the bf's sister watch her instead and went into this story about how they just bought a house and need to save money everywhere they can and asked for the deposit back!
And I had to tell another family I interviewed that the spot was filled.
What would you do?!
