I have a DCM who is being sneaky for sure. Yesterday, DCB was sent home with a fever of 101.2. No fever upon arrival, but it showed up around 3. Called DCM, she came and took DCB to doctor. When she got home she texted me that fever was same at dr, and they said it was "probably viral" and if temp was okay in the morning, could DCB come? So I texted back and said "did you get any medicine? If not, and temp is fine all night with no tylenol/motrin, then I'm fine with it." She responded that she "can't lie, they did get an antibiotic and she'd keep DCB home today." Ummmm, I think she DID lie because she obviously wasn't going to tell me. I feel if I hadn't asked, she was going to leave that out. And since when do they give ab's for a virus? Would you be upset? Would you say something... and if so, what/how? I'm not happy... this isn't the first time she has tried this. She always makes her dr appts for 4:30 after she picks up at 4. I get not wanting to miss work but she never tells me she's going and I have found them out to be on ab's before that I didn't know about.
Is this lying?

I state in my policies that children who go home with a fever need to be fever free without the aid of medication for 24 hours before returning. I also state in my policies that I must be informed if a child has been given medication prior to arriving at daycare. It's not difficult to tell if a child's been medicated when their fever comes back 4 or so hours after being dropped off.
Finally, it's stated in my policies that if I find a parent is being dishonest with me, especially in regards to their child's health, it will lead to an immediate termination.
If we leave little wiggle room for parents to mess around, I find there is less messing around- Flag

I had a child with a chronic runny nose (green). DCM would take him to the doctor and she's come back saying it's just a cold or he's just teething or it's nothing, there's nothing wrong.
I got sick of getting notes saying DCB was able to attend. That decision should be solely mine. I now have parents get a note from the doctor with the DIAGNOSIS and if an antibiotic was prescribed. That way there's no lying about it and I don't get the "teething, nothing's wrong, he's fine" bologna!- Flag

24 hours fever free before return. 48 hours on antibiotics before return.
Some Doctors WILL give Antibiotics "just in case" when they say it's viral. People need to run from these Doctors and not go to them.
Do what you need to to protect your children and yourself from the "it's all about me" parents.- Flag

This may be the case. And this mom is one who has said she will "demand" something. I had a child who had a very mild, early caught case of RSV. She was on vacation from daycare Friday, Sunday she was seeming sick, dr on Monday, out all week. I still notified my families just in case but the chance of exposure was small. This mom got antibiotics for both her kids. Umm... RSVIRUS?!?! But still, rules and rules and the sneakiness of it is what makes me so mad.- Flag
