    Cicada's??

Is anybody else experiencing these annoyingly loud gross looking bugs??? There must be millions swarming (I live out in the country but seriously this is overwhelming) and we couldn't go out this morning because there were at least 100 dead ones out on my deck....they have red eyes and are HUGE! They are also so loud it's almost ear piercing...NUTS

I get them every year, but never swarms of them. I agree, they are the grossed, ugliest looking things! I hate finding their old bodies (I don't know what they are called-the things they crawl out of) hanging on the swingset or the sandbox. YUCK!

I wonder what these are called. I don't know if we have these in Iowa.

We used to have them in Oklahoma. But none in Utah. Nasty little critters! They used to litter the sidewalks and would crunch when you walked in them....ugh!

Where is the puke icon we need so badly?

            They are so disgusting.

NOT a bug fan... specially nasty prehistoric winged loud crackly bugs like them.

            Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

You know if we suffered a nuclear holocaust those things would be up and buzzing around like Jack The Bear a few seconds after they got over the quake.

Haha, I used to live in the mid-West when I was a child and remember those. I was somewhat of an odd child and LOVED to catch bugs. For some reason, those were one of my favorites! I used to catch them and carry them around with me all day. I think the part that fascinated me the most was their chrysalid (the shell that is left on the trees). I always wanted to be an entomologist.

Something happened between childhood and adulthood, though, and I can't stand bugs anymore. You would never know that I used to like them when nowadays I scream and run anytime a cricket comes in my near vicinity.

You know I have to admit that although I had heard of a cicada in reference in a book somewhere I didn't know what a cicada was. All I knew was that they made a lot of noise so I googled it. Can I say WOW! I thought it very intriguing that they hide underground for 13 years (the ones i read about) and only come out to breed for about 5 weeks or so and then go back underground for another 13 years. That's amazing.
