I have a dcb...turned 3 in October. He wets his cot at least once a week and has done so since he's been here. When he was first enrolled his mom brought me some (huge) Goodnites-type pants (he's too big for Pull-Ups) for him to wear at naptime.
I am not a fan of Pull-Ups at naptime or any other time for a "potty-trained" child.... to me it gives the message of "its okay to pee on myself as long as I'm wearing a diaper". Plus I'm usually the only one in the room with 8-12 kids, naptime is already hectic enough...without having to undress a 50 pound 3 year old, put the Goodnites thing on him and redress him...then do it again in 2 hours.
So...my alternative is I wake them up half-way through nap to use the potty. I sometimes have to carry them to the potty and help them use it. It gets their bladders into the routine of holding it til he/she gets to the potty, and it reinforces "I dont pee on myself at any time". I usually dont have to do this for more than 2 weeks...I start waiting later and later to wake them until its phased out...its worked for EVERY other kid I've potty trained.
I know everything doesnt work for every kid...but this guy's body doesn't seem to be catching on...I can wake up to go at 2 pm every for two weeks...the first day I wait til 2:10...he's wet himself. He's been here for almost 6 months...and been "potty trained" for longer.
What can I do....short of slamming him back in pull-ups...I really dont want to do that...
