I am writing a blog on Dr's notes. It should be up tonight or tomorrow.

I am at the point where if they have a cough/runny nose for a week I want them to see a Dr. I understand these may be first time parents and new to the daycare scene, etc. but I have 5 kids and have been in the childcare buisness for 20 year. I know what I am talking about when I say "your child is sick!!!"....It is just frustrating. Especially when everything is "teething".........

            Croup question...

Hello Ladies ( Im not sure if there are any gentlemen... if so, hello to you too!)
My name is Crystal. Im a proud single mommy to an 11 month old adorable son named Louis Just a little back ground leading up to the croup shall we? He is a little guy. He is under 20 pounds as of friday. ( 19.3 actually.) But pretty darn long. ( About 33in give or take ) he was failure to thrive when younger, and has GERD. so I was always taking him to doctor. For every cough, sniffle and increased vomit spells when it seemed to get better. Well... Little louis has had this cough for 2 and a half months. (yes... you read that right) I took him in at least weekly. they kept telling me " his lungs are clear" He had to go for an MRI last month. The FINALLY found a RAGING sinus infection. * after two months mind you* So they started him on Antibiotics. He has been on those for 2 weeks. Cough got so bad during the night thursday into friday I moved him into my bed so I can rest easier knowing he was ok. ( the monitor wasnt assuring enough) I made an appointment first thing Friday morning. They tell me again his lungs are clear... and dont feel an xray is needed. He goes into a coughing spell and the stand in doc tells me " Hum... he has croup" They have put him on Steroids ( Predisone) and Albuterol *I probably spelled it wrong* The strange thing. He hasn't ran a fever at anytime with any of this. So do you think it will be ok to take him to daycare tmrw? He's been on the Staroids Friday, Sat, sun and getting them tmrw before I take him. Thank you so much for reading my novel

My son used to get croup when he was young. The steroids worked well.

Children with croup should be considered contagious for three days after the illness begins or until the fever is gone.

Welcome to the Daycare.com Forum! I've upgraded your status. You can post freely now.

I am not a doctor but that is what I understand. Did you ask your doctor if he can attend school? I would get your doctor's ok.
Here is a good source for croup: http://www.uptodate.com/contents/pat...s-and-children

It has Basic Desription of illness/disease, Cause, Symptoms, Spread, Incubation Periods, Contagious Periods, Exclusion, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention ALL on one sheet!!

It also helps the parents see where I get my info about exclusions and such.
We have one of those too and I love it! I will print off a page for a parent if I get one that argues! State says right here...exclusion!!!

I had a dcb who had croup over the weekend. His mother had to take him to the ER for breathing problems. He is 3.

Croup can affect everyone differently- while, yes, you can have croup and it won't be that big of a deal, not everyone is affected the same. I would give it at least 1 more day, for the sake of the other kiddos, especially if you have infants.
