I, too had parents that were pushing my rules and regulations to the brink.

Nannyde is a personal friend of mine. Not only did she watch my daughter for almost 2 years but I worked for her for a short time as well.

I went directly to her website and took her "Illness" policy and adapted it into my own program. I haven't had an issue since!

    Check it out!

She has an amazing program and 90% of her policies I use for my own program!

    Nannyde is a ROCKSTAR!!!

YOu rock. Thank you for posting that. I could not find enough info anywhere about when a child could return to DC.

No problem! I LOVE the handook they give us about child illnesses. It has ALL the info we need as a provider! I use it like a reference manual...everytime someone gets something I copy the page for parents and follow it to a "T".

It has Basic Desription of illness/disease, Cause, Symptoms, Spread, Incubation Periods, Contagious Periods, Exclusion, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention ALL on one sheet!!

It also helps the parents see where I get my info about exclusions and such.

Wow wish I had one of those books. We have a county health advisor we can ask questions but she is the only person serving one of the largest counties in the west cost. So good luck getting an answer in any timely manner

All 3 of my littles passed it around in January or February. All 3 ran fever with it. With that Mom's history, I would require a Dr. Note and watch for Tylenol doping to bring baby in. All 3 of mine also went into double ear infections. They were all out 3-5 days of care.

I forgot to add, All 3 also ended up with RSV.

I will find the ordering info because I know we were told if we lose the book, we can order a new copy. Since germs and illness know no state bondaries :: I'm sure it would be helpful for you just as much as it is for me. I am heading home for tonight though, so I will PM you tomorrow with the contact info! Have a great night! (I think copies were under $20)

I have a little guy who's been with me for 2 yrs and he seems to always be sick. He was my first and only dcb for the 1st yr and he still was sick all the time. I don't get it. Mom says that her family has bad allergies and she always seems to be sick and has sinus infections...dcb has had bronchitis off and on during the winter sessions, RSV, UTI, Croup, you name it...Its to where I am getting used to hearing him sneeze and cough through out the day. I don't remember a time of him not sneezing and coughing. I mentioned that I think it was time to visit a specialist and she kind of brushed it off and said she was going to wait til after he turned 2. I am not sure if her pediatrician said for her to wait or what. I would think will all the visits to the doctor that he'd recommend it.

Croup stems from a cold, since my son was a baby, every single time he gets a cold, his body turns it to croup, My doctors have all told me that the croup cough is not contagious, its the cold thats contagious, no one but my son and one other boy always gets croup, I actually seem to always see the croup in boys, none of my girls have ever gotten it, They say croup is similar to lyrangitis(?) in adults. I think while they have a fever of course they shouldn't be at daycare, but otherwise its viral its a cold, and can last the excat same amount of time.....but I have never had my son get croup and then seen another kid get it, I see another kid get a cold, I got laryngitis one a couple years ago, and now alot of times I catch a cold, I get laryngitis for a couple days.

Our state gives a similar book. It lists just about any and all childhood ailments and then lists the symptoms and needed treatment and whether or not to exclude from care. If a parent ever argues the point, I give them a copy of the page and tell them I have to abide by the state rules. That way, they can't blame me. It's "the state's fault" they can't bring their child to day care! I just smile and say I understand, but it's out of my hands. Love it!

I have a chid just diagnosed with RSV. For two weeks he had a cough and runny nose. Mom says it's just his teeth. Anytime he is sick it is his teeth. I finally said "look you can only blame it on teething so long". He went to the Dr she calls me and says he has RSV and wants to know who else has it? Noone does! Noone is sick! She says the Dr said he must have gotten it from Daycare. I am so frustrated right now I caould scream! They can get sick from other places!!!

I really think that if this parent had just taken there child to the doctor sooner then 2 wks that it wouldn't have turned into RSV. He's been sick 2 wks!! That is way to long to have a cough and runny nose. The thing that gets me is that kids can come in contact with diff. virus by parents or other outside people/kids. Carryier monkey's. Who knows where and how he got it!! Its stupid to blame it entirely on daycare.

Ggggeeerr do I dislike it when parents use "well DC is where they got it"

I also really get mad when they say well since my child was there yesterday and already was in contact with the other kids that means everyone was exposed, so my kid will be back tomorrow............... GGERRRR NO...
