    What Do You Think???

Here is my issue. I have 2 little guys who need to sleep in playpens. They are here 5 days a week. I have one little who is coming 1 day a week that needs something to sleep in. He is 3 months old. Do you think it would be inappropriate to use a new large laundry basket with a towel folded in the bottom of it for him to sleep in? My son slept in a drawer when we first brought him home, so it doesn't seem like an odd idea to me! So I figured I would see what the consensus is of other ladies. If it seems completely odd, please feel free to tell me so! I just don't really want to buy another playpen as this is a temporary situation, one day a week till May.

IDK maybe just a "pallet" on the floor? I really don't think a laundry basket is a bad thing either (it just seems odd ) but ya gotta do what ya gotta do....I wouldn't want to buy an another one either. I would also ask the parents , maybe they have an extra pack n play for you they could bring.

I am from a big city not sure if that makes a difference, but sorry I find that very odd. However, my sister lives in Eugene Or., that is something that I could see happening there...
So I am sending you a mixed basket.... But I still say odd...sorry

When my daughter was born, my 2 yr old son was very ornery with her. My mom suggested I carry her room to room with me in a laundry basket, which I did.....and she also said that is what they used back in the day. So for me, not unusual at all.

I would ask mom to bring pnp for you or buy one. Safe sleep says no blankets in crib, towels would be same thing. I would never place a day friend to sleep anywhere but a crib or cot or pnp. I know things are changing but it's happening for a reason.

I just got a nice PNP from Kmart yesterday for $49.00, I have found they have the best prices on them. (Each child here gets a new one upon enrollment).

Our rules and regs require a crib/PNP with tight fitting sheets and mattress. No blankets or accessories allowed. Cribs cannot be on the "drop-down side recall" list.

Please check your rules and regs since you may be opening yourself up for a huge liability. Better safe than sorry.

The basket doesn't sound strange at all to me. But I would be worried about licensing showing up and here we would get in big trouble for that. I would ask mom if she has one if it is only for such a short time.

Thanks for all of the different input. I have a tendency to be rather laid back and do things the way I would if the kids were my own and sometimes forget about our liability issues. If it was my kid, I would do it without even thinking twice. Thanks for bringing the liability issue up. If, heaven forbid, anything were ever to happen, I would want to make sure I was following all procedures. I talked to my licensor and she said she wouldn't recommend it, but didn't say no. However, I think I will either bite the bullet and buy a new one or see if DCM has one. Thanks all!

, as a parent, I'd say go for it! As a daycare provider...not so much. I wouldn't risk it--its not something that is approved for infant sleeping. That would be my issue with it. I would ask the parent to provide a pack and play, that's what I do for all my daycare kids.

I use moses baskets for my teeny tiny's, once they learn how to roll over they move into a pnp. I get my Moses baskets at walmart.com for $35

For a child who is only one day per week, I would request that the dc parents bring a pnp.

Because I am licensed the rules state that infants must sleep in a crib or pnp without any toys or blankets.

I was thinking, maybe with a little creativity you could "transform" a laundry basket into a moses basket...

Get a wicker type laundry basket, some soft fabric to go down inside the basket and around the "rim" of the basket, weave some pretty ribbon around the basket or fabric glue the ribbon to the basket, get a towel, fold it in half or in thirds, cut out the towel to the shape of the basket, wrap the towel in pretty fabric and fabric glue it underneath, then fit it down into the basket...it would be really pretty and creative and would cost maybe $15

Use a crib or play pen. Always. I know money can be tight, but part of running a home business is covering your overheard - proper sleep accomidations included.
Look for a used one for cheaper. Or, like some others suggested, request that the parents provide one.
