I only reschedule for extenuating circumstances. I NEVER reschedule a no call, no show anymore. Every time I did they would either do it a second time OR they would become a horrible client who couldn't/didn't want to follow policies.

If people communicate before hand I will reschedule but not a no call/no show. I am a firm believer that when people show you who they are you should believe them.

I'm a late poster, but I do agree with those above. If someone no call/no shows then I won't reschedule them. If someone is late or needs to reschedule for a legitimate reason I am happy to accommodate.

I will say though I have never had a successful provider/parent relationship with anyone who has rescheduled - even with a valid reason.

I don't reschedule no call/shows. They have 15 min to arrive or call with whatever emergency it is or I move on with my evening. If they arrive after that 15 min window I tell them sorry, my family time is important and we need to reschedule. If they call the next day I tell them the spot is no longer available. 90% of the time if they are stuck in traffic or got lost finding my house they call and I'll push the interview back.

The ability to communicate what is going on and arriving on time is very important and I note it during my interview. If they can't make it at 5:45 how can I expect them to make it to a 5:30 pick up time?

I'm sorry to butt in here but you guys have NO idea how happy its making me to read these! I'm from Knoxville originally, used to live at the Steeple Chase apartments on Central Ave. Pike near Sterchi Elementary. I moved to San Diego, CA with my husband after he joined the military...its been TWO YEARS and I SO VERY MUCH MISS TENNESSEE! I kept picturing all the places in my head and daydreaming about the fall rains that probably hitting ya'll about now. This all just put a smile on my face...I miss the mountains.

Keep wishing for the rains because except for one short spurt the other night we are so dry the grass is dying over here. I have never had my rain barrels not filled at least part of a summer. And do you still miss Ragweed season ... it's a doozy this year

I had a mom who was a no-show for three scheduled interviews. The fourth time she called I told her that just as she needed someone she could rely on… I also needed someone I could rely on and that so far she had not shown me that. I told her this was a poor fit. She screamed at me about ruining her life and I don't know what else… So I said "have a nice day"…click.

How COULD you do that to her? ::

Last week, I rearranged my schedule for someone to interview with me (on a day I had off). It was a PITA, but they were desperate to start on Monday. Interview went great, they said they were starting Monday. Childcare assistance already assigned to me. They never showed. I don't get people at all.

I think you are figuring this out for yourself. Usually, if they start out being a problem, they remain a problem.

Another thing I do is to text the parents an appointment reminder the morning of the appointment. That way if they want to reschedule, cancel or think they might be late they can reply to the text and not keep me waiting.

Maybe think about asking a few more questions during your 1st telephone contact. But then go with your gut. If it doesn't seem right pass the problem on to someone else.
