Thank you all for the lively discussion! I invited mom to hang out for a bit after daycare closed and let Bossy color while we chatted. Luckily, she feels just like many of you (with the exception of unregistered... Lord help your child's teachers) and she is very interested in correcting her daughter's behavior issues. We had the nicest talk, and it really boiled down to her insecurity about how her type A kid is going to handle kindy. As a mom of only one child, she never gets to see her child in a large group setting and she was trying to understand the whole picture.

I can't wait for tomorrow, I believe in fresh starts and we're going to have an amazing day!

If a child offends another there is always more than one involved. She was given a clean slate and offended an hour later. It's not the kid who was called an idiots fault she was on the receiving end of the name calling.

That said... I would love the mom picking up early and wouldn't give a flip if she was taken swimming, then to the circus... then zoo... then for ice cream and pizza. The bigger the reward the more likely she would reoffend the next day. All it would take is a removal of a privilege and BAM she goes home early again. ;-)

I could play that game all summer long!

Glad to hear that. I hope she has nothing but faith in you now. And I hope you told her that daycare will help with the transition to Kindy.

Why would one reward undesirable behavior?

"how's that working for you?" is also a Kevin Leman line. He has great advice on child rearing. I don't think I have ever watched Dr Phil, but I have listen to Kevin Leman and read some of his books.
