I sent the text letting her know that my house will eventually have a puppy in it along with one day my own children. Then she pulled her kid. I have owned dogs my whole life. I understand that puppies bite and have very sharp teeth. I have a kitchen in my basement so i will have a baby gate in the kitchen where the puppy will be most of the time. I will for the most part, unless i am holding my dog, keep them separate, but still in the daycare area. I Just don't think that its very fare for someone to tell me i can't get a puppy when she owns two herself. The puppy is not set in stone. I haven't even seen them yet! I feel that i did dodge a huge bullet. As much as we needed the money, I refuse to let someone tell me what i can and can not get. I live almost a half mile off the road on 650 acres. I would like to get a horse and a goat and chickens. I love animals and i just refuse to have someone stop me because of my job. I feel that it would have always been something with this lady.

I own a dog (had Saint Bernards) and my own two kids but I would never had sent my children to a daycare that had a dog.
It doesn't have to be fair. It's a parents right to do what is best for them. She didn't tell you that you couldn't have a dog. She said she didn't want her child to be in a daycare that has a dog.
Two very different things.
The puppy is not set in stone. I haven't even seen them yet! I feel that i did dodge a huge bullet. As much as we needed the money, I refuse to let someone tell me what i can and can not get. We can't please everyone. Just work towards finding families that are a good fit. That's the best way to please the ones that ARE a good fit for you.- Flag

I'm going to put my two sense in even though you didn't ask. It sounds like you have never owned a puppy before. Puppies have very sharp teeth. Puppies go through a biting phase. I have never know a puppy who hasn't. It takes them a while to learn that biting isn't OK. Even as an adult it hurts!! My pup broke my skin many times. It took a couple months for her to learn that biting is not OK.
Please keep that in mind. One playful bite to a daycare kids could land you in lots of trouble.
I keep my dogs separate from the kids even though they love kids. I highly recommend separating them until the pup is old enough to learn that biting is not OK.
I have had many puppies in my life. They all do this.
I have two big dogs (I have always had between 2 & 4). My daycare parents all have multiple dogs. My dogs do NOT go near my daycare kids. They are animals, and they have animal instincts. Almost all dog bites involving children are caused by the child. There is no way I could live with myself if my dogs (who love kids and have never bitten) were to harm one of them. Having a dog running free with daycare kids is simply always a bad idea. If you want to bring the dog around the kids to socialize it, on a leash, once or twice a day, I don't see an issue with that. I do see an issue with not ACTIVELY supervising all interactions between kids and dogs. How many times have you heard of a dog attack that starts out like this: "He was such a good dog. He's never hurt anyone before. They were only alone for a minute".- Flag

This is a breed that's known for its kid friendliness tho. I agree that puppy teeth could pose an issue and the puppy should be separated for the first few months, but this is a great dog! Just like this lady wouldn't put her child in a daycare with pets, there are also people who wouldn't put their child in a daycare without pets. It's just personal preference.- Flag
