    Hand, Foot & Mouth?

I have never heard of a rash following a fever besides Hand, Foot & Mouth & Roseola. Are there others?

I have a daycare child this week who had a fever Sunday evening. Mom kept her home Monday to make sure Fever was gone. She came back Tuesday. I changed her diaper in the morning, it looked like she had a bad diaper rash. After her afternoon nap the bumps in her bottom area started traveling up her thighs & then her face started breaking out around her lips, under her nose & her cheeks. I got ahold of mom & had her picked up. They did not think it was HFM so they said we will see you tomorrow. I spoke up & said she couldn't come back until they take her to the Dr to determine what the rash is.

They took her the next day-Wednesday- The Dr said if us just a viral rash & it has to run its course. Dr said it isn't contagious if fever is gone. So I let her come back Thursday. Her face cleared up a lot but her bottom & thighs were still rashy. After dad dropped off I decided to look at her hands. There were about ten red dots & one blister! I had mom pick up again. She took her to stat care & she said stat care said the same thing her Dr said. I did not allow her back today.

I hate making parents upset with them having to call off work but I don't know what else to do.

What do you all think it is? Hfm?

My son just came down with a 100.1 fever so now I am really freaking out because they say they get the fever first then a day or two later the rash starts for hfm.

I would bet this is hand foot mouth. This is how it presented on my 1 year old dck. I'd seen HFM before and it was just on the hands, feet and inside the mouth so I was surprised when it turned out to be HFM. Did you actually see a note from the doctor or are you going on what the parents claim the doctor said? I would bet your child does have it's let us know how it goes!

Yeah I am just going on what the parents told me. I think I should have asked for a Dr note too. I just have never heard of any other rash where you get bumps/blisters on your hands. They were on her palms, in between fingers & on the sides of her hand.

Ha, we were typing at the same time! Hope your little one doesn't get it I would insist on a Dr note before allowing her back into care! I have a bad feeling mom downplayed what the Dr actually said...

Well took my son to the Dr . His throat is covered in blisters. The Dr. diagnosed him with Hand, foot & mouth. That daycare mom wont text me back. I almost started crying leaving the Dr. I am so upset right now. My son is 14 months old. His fever is up to 102.8 with meds.

Her doctor probably told her it's MOST contagious before the rash and she took it to mean the rash isn't contagious. A lot of providers let children come when the child just has the rash because they figure most children have been exposed already and that may be the case depending on when the child was contagious and if all of their dck's were present during that time. I don't let children come until the rash is gone.

I am going to ask for the Dr's notes. I now have had 3 other daycare parents text me saying their child came down with it yesterday afternoon/evening so that makes 4 children yesterday around the same time. The parents of the child that brought it to my daycare feel their child still does not have it nor gave it to any other the daycare kids.

I require dr notes but how would that have prevented anything? By the time the child would have gotten TO the dr with hfm, they have already exposed everyone.

I don't exclude BASED on dr notes, only by symptoms. I do require a form to be filled out when they go to the dr so I can see what the dr said. But in the end, the dr doesn't run my daycare and really has no investment in MY business.
