Maybe I am dense-- do you give receipts to everyone when the pay weekly? I haven't been and didn't even think about it!

So what do you use to make the receipts?
Should I try to issue past receipts or just start going forward?- Flag

I used to only give them when people asked (usually at tax time; sometimes for reimbursement from work), but I'm trying to get better organized about paperwork, and so just last week started giving one each time I deposit checks. I made my own form, with my name, business name, and tax id number, and a place to write the date, check number, amount, and who'd paid it. Also a place for me to sign and date. I've asked parents to hold on to them for taxes, so I don't have to scramble at the last minute.- Flag

Yes, I issue them weekly/monthly depending on payment... I also keep a copy so parents can't say they paid more than they really did. I explain it's on the parent to keep the receipt for tax reasons, but there is always one parent that screws up and loses their copy- Flag

It's something I've been considering as well, just for my own benefit. I give an invoice on Thursday, but I've been considering giving a receipt as well. My thought is to get the pre-printed booklets with the carbon copies in them, such as what an above poster mentioned. Then you can explain it's up to them to hold onto it, but if they lose it, you still have a copy.- Flag

This is what I do with exception that my DCPs pay biweekly. Covers my butt in case of a dispute, keeps track of DCP that pays cash, and gives me a backup in case computer crashes.- Flag

receipts
I get the carbon copy spiral book type from Wal-Mart($6.00 +-) alot of the parents just don't take their copy so I pitch that but at tax time none of them can figure out how much they've paid-even though they most all write checks and can go by their own banking to figure it out(because I do it for them)and I then give them the tax form for the year with the info and my tax number....My taxes are based on my income so I do report all of it!(Husband was in the restaurant business for 35 yrs-- reported every penny he made but many servers DO NOT report all those earnings!)- Flag

I don't give receipts until the end of the year- but, I keep track of every payment and at the end of the year I give them a break down, week by week. Most pay by check, so they can verify, but I have a few dcd's that are bankers and they are keeping track of their own as well.- Flag

I get paid monthly and only 1 dcf wants a receipt. I have a spread sheet that tracks tuition and makes a receipt. It has come in handy for a dcp that wasn't any good at keeping track. I can go to my records and show them check # and date paid.
I give them an itemized year end receipt.- Flag

I keep a spreadsheet of who paid what and when for my records, but I also email weekly receipts. Emailing means less paperwork to keep track of for both me and DCF's.
Here is what I send in the email:
Tuition for week: October 6, 2014 - October 10, 2014
Amount Paid: $XXX in cash (paid in full)
Date Payment was made: Friday 10/3/2014
Received from: XXX
Payment taken by: XXX- Flag

I don't. Most of mine pay by check, so that is a paper trail. I have one pay cash and I offered cash receipts but she said my tax statement was fine. I provide the tax statement that shows all payments for the year in January or anytime a parent requests it. In the past I have had some that need it monthly for their FSA accounts.- Flag

I send parents an electronic invoice through google docs. Just a form I made but I prefer electronic because I don't have to keep track of a whole bunch of papers.Go green!
