A parent called and thought that a teacher was rough with her toddler based on our classroom webcams. I asked the other teachers who work in the room if they thought the parent's complaint was valid and they said no. I shared this with the parent when she came to pick up and she started cursing and threatened to beat the teacher up. The parent was in the office at the time. Tomorrow I need to tell her that she can't come back. What should I say? I can't even think of the words because this situation is so horrible. The parent has always been a bit rude but I never thought I'd have to ask her to leave.
Parent Threatened One of My Teachers

I would review the tapes myself for sure. Is it founded? If so, it's your staff you need to let go.
I would tell the parent that you cannot allow threats towards your staff and you cannot allow her back on the property.
Expect licensing to visit. Have your ducks in a row.- Flag

This way when the state does show up (and they will) you have your end covered.- Flag

Of track-sorry, but this drives home the point of why I would NEVER allow cameras here.
How many times have I led a toddler away from something in redirection, only to have them "buckle", leaving me with a toddler hanging by one arm momentarily while I readjust? What would that look like on camera? nope!- Flag

I would never install a camera for that very reason.- Flag

Other issues aside, how seriously did you take the threat of physical violence? I think if I was in that situation I would call the police on the spot. Whatever happened, there was no excuse for threats of physical violence; especially around children.
This may be my cynical side, but it never hurts to be the first one to contact the authorities in situations like this.- Flag

I also have one that will go down if I even touch his head or shoulder. I often direct children by gently touching the back of their head or shoulder to give them the idea of where I want them to go. This kid is being silly and giggles, but it often looks like I just threw him in some direction. (I do try not to do it with him because of this behavior)- Flag
