Hi everyone! So I'm due next week and had my doctor appointment today. The doctor swept my membranes this morning and I've been pretty crampy since with some sporadic contractions and a lot of spotting. It's not unmanageable but definetely uncomfortable. Those of you who worked until you went into labor, at what point did you call off of daycare? This is my 3rd pregnancy.....first I was induced a week late and second I went into labor in the middle of the night 2 days late and 1 day after a membrane sweep. My labors are very quick.

My labors are very quick.: then had a c-section...double whammy..... with my second I worked till 4:30 pm and had him at 11:30 PM the same evening, very easy delivery that time......Ironically both my boys weighed 7'7" and 20 inches long....went back to work when they were both 7 days old.....I was 35 and 37 when I had my babies, not by choice, just the way it worked out....didn't think I could have kids, then BAM!!!! I tell people NEVER GIVE UP HOPE!!!!

With my dd, I was having contractions at work-I worked in a center at the time. I called my doctor's office and they told me that it was probably false labor so I finished my shift. Well low and behold, I went in at 10 that night and had her the next day around 12 pm.
With my ds, I worked up until 8 days before I was due, but I went in for a checkup and they told me that my fluids were really low so they wanted to induce me in the next couple of days. 2 days later I had my ds. I would have worked until I couldn't if it wasn't for low fluid!
I think that whatever you are comfortable with, do it! I was lucky and loved being pregnant and didn't have any problems (with the exception of low fluids) so I worked until I absolutely couldn't. I know others though, that took a week off before. It all depends on how you feel.
I was thinking about you today. Wow, that sounds creepy...., but I really was thinking of how you were doing.

It would be hilarious if we both gave birth the same day! Anyways, I have no kids right now & am not advertising at all. Not sure if I'm done, but I'm done for right now. Special needs 3 year old & newborn plus daycare was going to stress me out. Besides, I only took one or two kids at a time anyway. When I worked elsewhere though, I basically worked up til birth b/c I had no choice..I was young and had crap jobs. With my 3 yr old, I wasn't working during birth, but got a job as a chef about 2 mos after he was born, and stayed there for a year. Then started the daycare.- Flag

I feel like it's harder this time around though. I have 5 children in my care and it is not an easy group at all. 3 of the 5 are potty training and the 3 boys I have are very active and don't listen well....well at least not today.
How are you feeling today? Any contractions yet?- Flag

I've had a few BH..but nothing major..mainly dull back pain that comes and goes. And her head is mostly dropped..but with subsequent pregnancies, they usually don't fully drop til right before labour. She's bouncing in my bladder though. You?- Flag

I worked until the time I had my son. The daycare parents were very cooperative. They arranged a backup plan for who would keep/pick up their children, just in case I went into labor on a week day, and I did. I went into labor on a Wednesday and luckily I started having contractions around 1 in the morning so I had time call the parents and tell them I was closing. I did not want to go into labor while the children were there and I started freaking out around my due date. Looks like my son did me a favor by allowing me time to contact the parents.Supermom- Flag

I had my membranes swept and worked after it happened. I had to keep walking to keep my contractions coming. I didn't open the next day and went to the birth center instead. They swept my membranes again. I had her that afternoon.- Flag

Yes I know what you mean. I closed about 2 weeks before my actual delivery date because I was experiencing some very serious BH. I got up to use the bathroom and before I could make it to the toilet water gushed out and was everywhere. Well at least I thought my water broke. Me and my fiance got our daughter dress, grabbed my hospital bag, and rushed to the hospital. I soon found out that I was not in labor at all because I wasn't dilating and I had really peed my pants. Man was I frustrated. I missed out on money that day so I wasn't happy about that at all. Things rarely go as planned when going into labor. You'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully it all works out for you. Congratulations on you new bundle of joySupermom- Flag

I was hoping yesterday's sweep would have worked, but without any contractions I just don't think it's working. I'll have another sweep next Thursday 2 days shy of my due date. After that, the doctor wants to schedule an induction. I'm thinking that since I already have experience with a super quick child birth it won't be as traumatic this time if it were to be as quick. Seriously, I woke up at 2 am, we got to the hospital at 2:30 am, they put me in the waiting room for 5-10 minutes, and I had dd#2 at 3 am.

I worked in a center when I was pregnant and worked up until I was induced at almost 42 weeks, so no advice there.
But I want to say congratulations on your soon to be new little one!- Flag

I was loading up a kid in my van when one of my DCP's arrived ( I had to leave a message as she did not answer her phone) after informing her I was to go to the hospital IMMEDIATELY. I unloaded that child so fast and then headed to the hospital for my crash c-section with twins.- Flag

My daycare parents were all good about it.
I worked the day before all my kids were born. All were fairly normal 8 hr-ish labors, and went into labor in the middle of the night with 2 births, and one was in the early morning. So I didn't have to call parents to pick up kids.
In addition, I had one baby that was a foster baby straight from the hospital, that we picked up at 8pm at night, and he met the daycare kids the next day. I am pretty much a "go with the flow/don't borrow trouble" type of person, though. My dh is the opposite, and likes to plan every teeny tiny detail in advance.
I did have a sahm neighbor that I could call on if there was an emergency(for me), to take control of the kids & call parents ---a good idea even if one isn't pg. Written down emergency plans are always good. I do that to calm dh. He is a corporate health & safety guy, so... there always has to be a written plan.LOL.- Flag
