Bathroom Mom

years ago when my kids went to a center, they got those portable toilets and made parents use them. it made sense.
They only had restrooms for the kids, they did not want little kids and adults going to the bathroom together at the same time. They had two door entry into the bathrooms and locked the door that the parents had access to and only the door from inside the classroom was used by the kids and staff.
this was a center that went from 0 to age 12.
I recall a lot of parents complaining, but then the office told it was all for safety reasons.
Looking back, I would have done exactly the same that they were doing.- Flag

Thanks for your suggestions everyone!!! We had added a vestibule to my front door, and when my Director would let DCM in to pick up, she was bring DCG out to the vestibule with her and shutting the door to the center so that DCM couldn't come in!!
DCM did ask on Friday if parents were no longer allowed in the center and she felt very "uncomfortable" with the vestibule up. Now mind you, every other parent RAVED how GREAT the vestibule was, because before there was no permanent separation to the outside door previously. My director explained our policy is still the same, it is open door and she can come in to discuss problems at any time, etc. But that she is closing the door behind her for added security for the kids already in care. Then DCM says "oh, security. That makes sense".
I'm sure at some point she will be back to trying to use the bathroom. When it happens, I will do the 5 minute knock and are you ok until she comes out. I'll keep you updated should she start her shenanigans again!!!!!- Flag

I would probably post a note on the back of the bathroom door stating, "Please limit bathroom time to a minimum," or something like that. The vestibule was a GREAT idea!- Flag

Does she leave her dd in your care while she's using the bathroom? If so, wonder if you could tell her that she'll have to pay for the extra time her child is in your care? Since she's supposed to be picked up at 2:30 but isn't leaving until almost 3:00, you could offer to change her pick up time to 3:00. Maybe if she has to pay for the extra time, she'll leave faster?
I was going to ask the same question - if she's using a single-stall adult bathroom and there's a way to open it from the outside I'd lock it shut (empty) before she's due to arrive. Direct her to one of the toddler toilets with the half-doors and no privacy instead. ::
