Once had a dcd forget his daughter for over 2 hours. Finally after getting in contact with dcm, who was a teacher, dcd shows up. Less than a year later family left due to divorce, and a few years after that, read in the paper how dcd was arrested for smuggling drugs, via stuffed animals.
Guess what I'm trying to say.....we're not always aware of the possible problems there are at home, better to set standards and keep to them, then allow their problems to trickle into the business.

I was shaking mad so I threw in an unprofessional "if this had been an emergency situation she would have bee screwed". I am so mad.
you need reliable back up in case this happens again. Parents need to give you a list of emergency contacts that can pick up- Good for you not letting them return until the late fees are paid. Its very embarrassing to have to ask for money owed to us. I would be telling this parent. Pick up is to be no later then........whatever time you have agreed upon. If it happens again I would term. I have a life outside of daycare and part of keeping me healthy and in good shape to do my job is having the parents appreciate me and respect my rules- You did good girl!!!

NO excuses.... my husband works nights as well he leaves here around 10:30pm to be at work of 12:00am, the is then home anywhere from 7 - 9 am and is always up by 3:30pm at the latest.....

Today he went to bed around 9 - 9:30 am and just woke up ( 2:00pm ).....

If the father works 9-9 technically he probably doesn't get to sleep till 10am and if he sleeps till 5pm it's only 7 hours.

That being said, if he has other children at home, depending on their ages, he should not be sleeping if they are home.

Let's hope this was a wake up call and will show them that this isn't working and they need to make changes, even if they are to arrange a later pick up if you are willing.

The worst part of it for me would be the frustration and not knowing if he is coming or not. I am open later than most and my hours are contracted so we would just make changes but if that wouldn't work for you maybe termination is your answer.
          I see little people.

I've had parents show up as late as 45 minutes but I was always able to get a hold of someone and it only happened once.

Even if this was their first offense, I would've met them at the door with a notice of immediate termination. Being late is rude but being that late without any contact is scary. Not worth your stress.

That being said you did good by sticking to your policy but I'd go ahead and term immediately if they haven't already. I wouldn't be able to trust them to be there in an emergency...nor would I trust them to not do that again...

But that's just me and my experience with inconsiderate daycare parents so maybe I'm bias...

Well today is pay day....and the didn't come. Hmmm. Now im wondering if they are going to come back. Payment is due by tomorrow for next week so I guess its wait and see. They have paid for their last two weeks if they give notice. If not, their account is already behind so this should be interesting,

Here's to hoping they show tomorrow and im not losing 1/4 of my income...

Just the $48 late pick up fee and $20 ($10/day) for not paying it. If they came to pay today or tomorrow im not going to charge the late fee for not paying just cause I don't feel like it. But I want the late pick up fee.

They pay late all the time, usually just a day, but always communicate about it.

I feel like if you are picking and choosing which part of the policies you will follow through on they will do the same. I can see how this could be troublesome in the future...

I agree, I don't think they are even aware that I asses the late fee since she wasn't allowed to come. I figured it is less headache for me to just take the late fee rather then deal with an adult tantrum about the late payment fee.

IM closing in a month and will admit that I am running out of energy to deal with these parents.
