I would announce all free days are gone. And if you want to continue it for all others then talk to them privately and individually. Other mom shouldn't know what you are doing for others anyway or what others are paying.- Flag

Most home daycare's here charge $70-$75. The rates for centers here range from $60-$95, I think. The state only pay $77.50 the age group I have and want you to have a better beginnings rating in order to participate on the program. The rates are sad, I know- Flag

Okay I have a parent upset with me because I called her out on being short on her payment. It wasn't but $12.00, but it's mine and I want it!
Here's the scoop, when I take days off I do not charge my parents because most of them have to take off work or miss school because of not having back up care. I don't charge but $80.00 a week ,and for a 4 day week the parents only pay $64.00, but this one particular parent pays $56.00 and think it's okay, because she forgot that I went up on my rates 6 months ago....yea right!! Geesh come on now I am already giving them a break and then she want to short me:confused::confused::confused:
Am I wrong for calling her out about the $12.00????
This is the end of the free days when I am closed. From now on they WILL be charged.
Charge for a space is your best bet. They pay no matter if in attendance or not. You can't run your business with out having an anticipated weekly income. While your at it, give yourself paid days off and vacations also- Its the best way to go. Makes you feel worth all the work that you do with these kids. We work hard, and we need take hold of that. It makes us better providers. I wish you the best-- Flag

I've said things similar to this before about different issues. I actually kind of enjoy seeing their mouths hang open or see them stumble over their words trying to back pedal.

P.S. There is a nice professional way to say everything you are thinking. Sometimes it can be challenging but can be done.- Flag

If she questions your right to it, it is okay to say "It isn't pleasant for me to feel like I have to feel bad about asking to be paid."

I also do not charge when I am closed. I do text parents and let them the rate for the week if it is different.
You do need to be paid. $12 is $12.
With the last three families I made it clear that I do not like to be asked to be paid. It makes me very uncomfortable and since they do not have to ask to be paid neither should I. They all chuckled and agreed.- Flag

I give my parents a months notice, and remind them several times in between when I'll be closed, so they have plenty of time to find back up care.- Flag
