When I was a kid in daycare, providers must have been allowed to spank. My favorite dcm (I still see her from time to time) wouldn't hesitate to spank my bottom for certain things. 1)going across the street without her permission 2) talking back to her 3)fighting with my siblings 4)being disrespectful of her home and toys (throwing, stealing, breaking etc)
She was a loving but firm provider, and as an adult I thank her for filling my mom and dad's roll while they worked late hours. I would often be there for breakfast, lunch AND supper..and watch night-time sitcoms with them as a family. I LOVED her so much, it truly was a second home to me.
I was spanked as a child, and I have spanked my own kids. Though, they are getting older now and it is not as necessary as it used to be. Now I can take things away like the iPod or the Computer, or TV etc etc and that is just as effective. BUT they are old enough to have stuff like that bother them MORE than getting spanked.
I don't normally brag, but I get compliments ALL the time on how well behaved they are in church, at the store, at friends and family's houses. They are even really good at home MOST of the time (there are days though,
).
I know spanking isn't the only form of discipline, nor is it necessary for all children. There are, however, quite a few children who should have been spanked as a form of discipline. I firmly believe, that the increase in medicating of our children for ADD, ADHD, and ODD et all is in direct correlation with spanking being frowned upon as a form of discipline. My philosophy: If you spare the rod, you spoil the child. I also believe it takes a village to raise a child. /shrug Disagree with me, agree with me -- It's how I was raised, and am thankful for it.
