If it only started a few months ago, maybe there is a family trauma of some sort. Parents not getting along, alcoholism, and I hate to say it but sexual abuse. It could be one reason why the parents are rude when it is mentioned.

I think he sounds like he could be on the spectrum. His parents need to get him evaluated.
