    I Am NOT a Babysitter

Oy! I have a very strong dislike to that word. I am buying the Ooey Goey lady's shirt the has the word crossed out. I find it degrading when people call me a babysitter or say "Oh she's just a babysitter."

    Sorry for the vent.

    I miss making "babysitting" money.

My daughter can get couples to pay her for one night out what I get for 3 kids all day...

People are willing to pay to play.... just not to work.
    - Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

It is very frustrating when people say that. I actually had a very close friend say that to me the other day "How many kids are you babysitting now"? I was mad/sad/annoyed/hurt all at once.

I wanted to hand her the pile of 100+ pages of paper work I've been going through to switch from a permit to a license, or maybe ask her to BABYSIT my kid so I can meet with my tax preparer for my BUSINESS.

People just don't understand that we are business owners. Not occasional babysitters pocketing extra cash.

I advertise as in-home preschool and I had someone on craigslist e-mail me this week asking about my baby-sitting rates.

I replied back that I am sorry but I do not have time to baby-sit due to the fact that I run an in-home preschool and need to spend time with my own family outside of business hours. I wished her luck in her baby-sitter search.

              I now say one of two things;

"Good God, I haven't sat on a baby in years."
              or
"If I babysat, I would come to your house, eat all your food, put the kids to bed & make out with the bf on your couch."

(I picked them both up on here.., thanks ladies!)

I'm a babysitter and proud of it. The term doesn't bother me at all. I think it's a great profession!

I don't mind it, either. It's not like what I'm called changes what I do in any way.

I detest it! I liked the comeback I read here a few weeks ago....gosh, I haven't babysat since middle school!

Doesn't bother me either. I've never had it said to me as an offensive statement, simply as the term that some people use. Where I'm from people just don't speak formally. It's never bothered me and likely never will.

Out of curiosity I looked up the definition. It used to bother me but now it doesn't- most of the time I don't think people mean it rudely.
                            Anyway here is the definition:

                            ba·by·sit·ter also ba·by-sit·ter (bb-str)
                            n.
                            1. A person engaged to care for one or more children in the temporary absence of parents or guardians.
                            2. A person who cares for or watches over someone or something that needs attention or guidance.

I really have never understood what about the word is so horrible...

Where I'm from if you say daycare provider, they think you work in a center.
