    This^^. It's just a word.

It says MORE about the person using it than it does about the person they are labeling.

It doesn't bother me a bit. I still provide the same services and the same quality NO MATTER what people call me.

It's definitely NOT worth my time to get upset about it.

It's no different than teachers getting upset that child care providers refer to themselves as teachers. ...kwim?

the term "babysitter" in itself doesn't bother me!... but, more time than not the parents referring to me as their "babysitter" try to turn, bend and disregard the rules

It used to bother me for all of the reasons PP's have stated.

But its something that I can't change- no matter how many times I try.

I refuse to let it ruin my day.

So it is what it is......

I just know that I am darn good at whatever you wanna call it. ::::::::

Have a great day- its FRIDAY happyface

            Sorry for the vent.
Next time someone says that you should say "Oh, then I better to raise my prices because babysitters get paid at least $10 per hour per family, don't have to provide food for the children, aren't required to have a license or take child safety/care classes, and get reimbursed for transportation mileage and gifts bought for the children."

Sorry, I'm in a snarky mood right now.

Every time they say that in front of you, you can make them write 100 times "I will not call my child's daycare provider a babysitter" and have to turn it in the next day before pick up . Though chances are they will rather leave then have to do homework.

It bothers me and probably always will. It bothered me when I was a nanny and people called me a babysitter. I hardly let it ruin my day! ! Good to see that so many aren't bothered by it as well.

I dislike the term. I feel like the client is trying to belittle me somehow because when I think of "babysitter", I think of a teenager sitting on the couch, watching tv, until the parents get home. I do a heck of a lot more than that, I have more education than a lot of my dcp....It just really rubs me wrong.

Oh no! I am so sorry because I know I do this sometimes. I use babysitter interchangably with daycare provider and I just realized in a couple posts I did here, I did that!

That's how people in my area use it. It doesn't bother me at all.

It doesn't bother me. I have been called babysitter, nanny, daycare provider,...I don't care what they call the job I do, as long as they respect me in their actions and remember to pay me on time::

Like another poster I am not so much bothered by the terms I am the lack of respect that usually comes with it.

And there have been posts here that do use the term in a derogatory fashion (most in the parents section) sort of like "who does she think she is?! She's only a babysitter!"

People are willing to pay to play.... just not to work.
