I would have done the same thing! Sorry for your loss.

I would have asked her, "What do you mean?" with a very flat tone.

Since it already happened, I would absolutely address it. That is incredibly rude!

Did you ever end up saying something to this mom?

I told her at pickup that I will never be disrespected in my home again. I got a call last night from a family with a stay at home dad who is looking to go back to work. If he gets hired and I watch their son I am terminating this family immediately. Thank you every one.

Here's how the conversation should have gone:

DCM: "Well, did you have FUN at the funeral?"

YOU: "I'll have your termination papers at pickup time"

Some people can be very inconsiderate. One of my ECE teachers who used to do home daycare said the only time she ever closed her daycare was for family deaths, one being the death her infant grandson (he died due to a medical mistake made by a doctor) and she said that all of her clients understood except for one who tried to convince her to still take her kid.

Sally, I truly hope you can get rid of them sooner rather than later. That was just completely uncalled for. Still shaking my head in disbelief.

Wow! That dcm was so out of line with her comment. I'm sorry for your loss. I hope that new family works out for you.
