Sleeping Regs For 12 Months +?

I've already got a call into my licensor but my 14 almost 15 month old has become adept at pulling up his pack and play sheet during nap and wrapping himself up in it.

He's incredibly mobile, dexterous and strong so it doesn't surprise me, but what can or should I do about this? Since he's older than 12 months can I just nix the sheet and give him a small blanket now? I'd prefer to keep him.in the pnp but will transition him to a mat at this point if necessary. The only thing I don't want to do is keep repeating the sheet pull up routine every nap.

    Thanks for any insight!

    Do you sew?

    If "sew", (sorry)...

Take a sturdy adult sheet, and make a couple pillow-case type sheets that slide over the crib mattress. You could add a heavy zipper if you're really talented.

Funny....just had this convo with my licensor.

Yes, as long as they are 12 months and/or older, you can ditch the sheet and give him a blanket.

Ours has said that once they hit 12 months they may have a blanket. Don't you still have to have a sheet on the pack n' play tho? We have a meeting Monday night with our licensors and hopefully they will have answers to some of the "new" regs and when they need to start. I know the no blanket under 12 months isn't new, but every licensor is different, even in the same county.

This is what I've done, but I use a Velcro fold over closure instead of a zipper. In my state they have to have something covering the mattress or pad that they're sleeping on.

            Interpretation is definitely localized....

            The state regs say:

            Subp. 7.

            Toddler equipment.

Each toddler shall be provided with a mat, crib, cot, bed, sofa, or sleeping bag.

and then under equipment it says : a crib, portable crib, or playpen with waterproof mattress or pad which meets the requirements in part 9502.0425, subpart 9. (for infants)

So I am guessing () as long as the child is over 12 months, a sheet isn't really required. (???)

Wish the regs were crystal clear.

Basically, here in WI, if they are still in a still in a pnp, no matter the age, they must have a sheet, and may have ONE blanket, tucked under the sheet. Tricky, since my older infants pull them out. One baby I switched to a very breathable afghan; she usually sleeps on top of it on her tummy. Other baby, I put back in a sleep sack because he would pull his blanket over his head and sleep wrapped in it.

Once they are on a cot or sleeping bag, they don't have to have sheet, I think. I have sheets for my vinyl cots, but currently have no cot-kids.

Wow, this is the exact same problem I'm having with my dcg who's 15 months.

I haven't asked my licensor (which I really need to), but from what I gathered from our regs here in Kansas is that since she's over 12 months I just have to have a covering over the mattress (and I think another blanket and a pillow, but I'm nervous to add those into the mix).

After that, I can only do so much if she decides to get UNDER the blanket I have put over the mattress. Just the same that I can only do so much for another child I have who's on a mat and decides to crawl under both layers of blankets while she's sleeping.

I'm not about to start moving kids around so that they aren't touching their mat or mattress, KWIM?

For what it's worth, I'm probably in the wrong. I need to ask my licensor. I just figured either taking the sheet out altogether or laying a blanket down on top of the mattress would be a lot safer than dcg wrapping the fitted part of her sheet around her face.

Sewing a pillowcase type covering w/ some velcro to keep it closed seems like a good idea. It wouldn't be hard to do at all. Even if the seams weren't totally straight it wouldn't matter. If you don't have a sewing machine maybe someone you know does? This project would only take 1/2 hour or so (even for a novice seamstress like me!)

I use these on my PNPs. They go on like a pillow case, with a folded end to fold over the open end. So far, no one has managed to pull them off.
They are made in such a way that you could also velcro them closed with a long strip of velcro if your little one is particularly ninja

I don't mind sewing and thanks for the link Angels!

My concern would be that if it's all one piece do you just cut slits through the bottom to keep the velcro tabs that attach the mattress to the frame accessable? Because I'm pretty sure he could McGyver the whole mattress out if it wasn't pinned down with those strips .

BC, the mattress is slick/waterproof-ish so as long as I confirm it's ok I may just ditch the sheet and give him the blanket he obviously is desperate for

Heidi, I think if I put him in a sleep sack he'd have a bird . Tried it when he was younger and it REALLY ticked him off that he struggled to stand with it on and it removed his ability to mouth his feet while rolling around

He's a fantastic napper, but needs that roll around downtime before he conks out.

I have his twin!!! My 14 mo old does the SAME thing. I ditched the sheet and he sleeps with a receiving blanket (his new security item). I never let it be so chilly that he even needs a blanket. Plus he generally runs hot. He's a 'sweat-er'.
