Sanitizer/Disinfectant

It does disinfect, but it takes 10 minutes! As in it has to stay wet w/ odoban for 10 minutes to disinfect. Even when I spray it on pretty thickly and leave it it air dries faster than that, and it is not food-surface safe.

Don't get me wrong- I love my odoban, but only for sanitizing and odor removal

Hmm, not exactly what I was hoping to hear. I called around and found the gallon size at Walmart but it was considerably more expensive. I also went on the Odoban website and it says to disinfect it has to be left for 10 minutes and it's only for non-food surfaces. Except for the possibility of the whole asthma thing I personally don't have enough reasons to switch . I was hoping to find a product that was very similar to bleach.

From what I found:

$2.50/gal.....$9.98/gal (both will make the same number of gallons based on what the recommendation for dilution is)
2 minutes.....10 minutes (amount of time it needs to disinfect)
Yes ............No (can I use it on food-surfaces?, according to package instructions)

What sanitizer/ disinfectant does everyone use? We have always used bleach water because I thought that is what was required by my state regs but I just found out yesterday that we can use any EPA approved product happyface

I would LOVE to find something that is "green", safe for little ones w/o washing w/ water after, and disinfects pretty quickly.

We use (and love) Odoban for smells and for household cleaning, but it has to be rinsed w/ water to be food-safe (ie for toys that are mouthed, or food prep surfaces) and it takes 10 minutes to disinfect (it does sanitize in 1 min).

Any ideas???

I use Odo-ban on hard surfaces and a product called Bac-out by Bio-clean on soft surfaces (all-natural and green). With 6 cats (1 elderly cat & 1 with urinary issues due to diabetes) and a big dog, plus the daycare I can tell you these products are THE BEST!!!!! I even use Bac-out on my cloth diapers instead of bleach.

We use the 3 step method (soap water, water, bleach water). We use it in spray bottles for things like table tops, and in buckets to dunk and soak toys. At the end of the day after kids are gone, all toys are sprayed once more with the bleach water and left to air dry, and things like door handles are wiped down with Clorox/Lysol wipes.

I wish I had more ideas for green alternatives, but I do like the ideas shared in this thread! Whenever I open my own daycare (couple of years from now if all goes well) I will definitely use alternatives to bleach. Right now, they aren't my rules to change.

Hello, there is always an abundance of products you can find on the internet so maybe dig around a little there. Or abatix.com is a company that has a variety of disinfectants and supplies. Our Sam's Club has a good selection of bulk, undiluted s anitizers and a "green" one-- sorry I can't remember the brand names but you could check there.

I use Melaleuca's disinfecting solution. Actually I use all their products. Chemical free and all natural. 100% safe for everyone. It was approved by licensing.
http://www.melaleuca.com/ I have 0 chemicals in my house. None. It was one of the best decisions I made. Although you have a monthly amount you need to spend since its members only type thing. But if you go in on it with someone its really easy to meet that requirement.

I use a couple of things. Lysol spray for the bigger toys, play kitchen etc , Lysol wipes for the diaper table, and the dw for as much stuff as I can. Where I live I can use anything as long as it kills 99.9% of households germs. I personally hate the bleach/water solution. I have ruined so many outfits through the years!

You become a member and have so many points you have to purchase each month or they will automatically send you your backup order. Its 32 points a month (I think). It works out to about $60-70 a month. But, if you ask friends etc if they want anything that helps in your point total. This is my third month and I love the stuff. So no you don't have to sell it, you can use the membership for yourself. I joined in March when membership was only $1.

TMI- I have had deodorant issues for a long time. Nothing except homemade worked all day. Theirs works all day! I was so happy to find it worked for me. I don't have the time right now to make deodorant...

:: I hesitated in signing up for this same reason as well. I don't think its antisocial its just we talk ALL day long and sometimes its nice not to talk!

To answer your question I do not know. I did talk to someone, the lady I signed up "under". I will look and let you know what I find.
