Here is a thread where Mema and I talked about them. I linked a blog that has the directions to get them to glow (and all sorts of other fun stuff to do with them).

Daycare Center and Family Home owners, Directors, Operators and Assistants should post and ask questions here.

I got all the ideas from the link in that thread.
OOOOHHHH fun, I cant wait! thanks BC.......I know my older kids will enjoy it and they will just eat it up.

Yep. It's like a black lightbulb that lights up purple and makes certain things glow. especially neon.

I have glow in the dark paint, glue and crayons. Turn on the black light and they glow like crazy.

I have one similar to this

If you had been living in a cave (where it's dark) you'd probably already have a black light. ::

Blackcat...what amount of dry water beads (approximately) is enough to fill a standard sensory table when hydrated? (Does that even make sense ?)

I saw that our forecasted high tomorrow is supposed to be 117 .

Usually if it's already above 100 right after breakfast (9:00 am-ish), I actually will keep the kids inside for the day . It's nice and air conditioned inside so I don't have to worry about cooling activities. Thankfully, that only happens about ~4-5 times per year. If that's the case, I try to plan something active inside to tame their energy level. For example, I will take out the parachute inside, or we will get out my huge tub of soft balls, or I will put a tent filled with balls at the bottom of our indoor slide (with the side opened) for the kids to slide into, or we will play with the Stomp Rocket.

If the temperatures are between 90 and 100, I usually plan water activities outside (like the wading pool, the hose, water sensory play, slip and slide, etc.).

                      Um, I'm not really sure.

The web-site says "One small packet of 7 grams of water beads will produce about 500 grams of beads once they are hydrated"

They are suppose to grow to like 50x's their original size. I've never actually filled a full sensory bin with them.

This is one small package BEFORE they grow and afterwards. (the bin is a 15 qrts)

                      Hopefully that helps

If you live in an Asian area, you can also use BOBA, but you have to cook them. They are non-toxic. I keep meaning to buy some.

Hot bleck!! 100 or even 110 doesn't bother me... I've traveled all over the us over my life. But what I don't like is the temps here in Mississippi. 110 WITH 100% humidity. 110 with 20% humidity... No problems.

I think the kids here are pretty acclimated to it if they grew up here. We have lots of hot days here during the summer and our winter and summer patterns are largely unpredictable from year to year.

I lather them in sunblock and we go outside morning and afternoon. Frequent rests and lots of hydration they do great. If I kept a kid inside even with 100 temps, parents would think I was nuts . I guess because that's just what everyone here knows.

I do have shade though and we swim almost every day so that helps.

Yeah, I've lived in some hot places before! I used to live in Macon, Georgia and 105 with 150% humidity is worse than Arizona at 115 with 5% humidity! At least the shade here is manageable!
