Oh... Madysyn? Is that supposed to be Madison? I really am not a fan of "creative" spelling!!

I would also not take a child with that name. It sounds negative, and it makes me question the parent's interest in the child's success in life. Usually, as parents we do whatever it takes to give our kids the best chance in life.
This particular woman is very sweet. She recently went to Kansas city, and was horrified to hear a woman cursing out loud in public. She said they were "Vile curse words" She'd "never heard of such a thing".
So, in her case.... i'd have absolutely turned them down.
One year I had sisters called Rebel and Rage. The parents really, really wanted the little biker chicks who would rebel against authority. But, instead both girls were sweet little pleaser kids who wanted nothing more than to wear a princess dress to school. They had those bedazzled light up tennis shoes (twinkle toes) and that was the most Bad*** thing they had.
So, sometimes, no matter how you envision your kids to be, they turn out to be who they are going to be in-spite of the parents.- Flag

I can't count how many times that I have heard that. People tell you that when they name their child that and say it like it's never been done before...Not a fan either. I do like the other names though...

I'm an atheist too but somehow that name still gives me the creeps. I suppose I'd interview them and then decide. Maybe they'd let me call him Luc?
I wasn't thrilled when I had a child named Christian but I took him. I know it is a common name but I just don't like it. I got over it though. (Not that I had anything against Christians). Just saying....

I'm really surprised you didn't know who Aleister Crowley was. Our snakes name is "Mr. Crowley" and my son goes 'da-na-na-na' (like the song) everytime we open his cage. It's cute.
I loathe all names with y's where i's are supposed to go. Neveah sounds like a stripper, not heaven.
Also- to the pp who said that 'blue colar' people sometimes act like yahoos. My dh is a plumber, and he makes more than my lawyer dcd. The dcd who is a partner at his firm, we see his commercials on tv locally. THAT was an interesting conversation with those two. One in a suit and miserable, my dh covered in dirt, wearing jeans and work boots, who loves his job.
That same lawyer dcd loves to hunt and owns a jeep. My dh is a vegetarian and is pursuing a masters degree. You NEVER know.- Flag

Why is Christian so acceptable and Lucifer is not?
Lucifer was an angels name, correct? So Michael should be offensive? I know a grown man named Judas (Jude for short) and I <3 that name.- Flag

Lucifer is just another name for Satan and/or is closely related to that level of evil for many.
The word Christian doesn't have that same negative connotation to most.
One is likely to have a heck of time with college admission boards, getting hired on anywhere but a bar or tattoo parlor and earning the respect of the mother and father of any potential partner he finds.
The other will (like it or not) more than likely have an advantage even if the two were identical in every other way.
You can call it discrimination but we ALL do it on some level. It's human nature to develop preconceived notions based on societal norms.- Flag

Eh, wouldn't bother me and I'm a conservative Christian.
My own name is in the title of a movie about something Satanic AND I am Rosemary's baby. So, there we go. ::

I would not refuse a child into care because of his name, unless it was something blatantly offensive. There is a family who named their child Adolf Hitler. Now that is a child I would turn away, because the parents are clearly nutso.
When I was a classroom teacher, I had a little girl in my class named Virgin. True Story.- Flag

I would certainly hesitate, as it would make me question the parents if nothing else. I despise the name Damien, as well. Why would you purposely give your child a name with such negative connotations?
I have NO idea who Aleister Crowley is, though I have heard the name before. Even after looking him up quick, I am not sure... was he a Satanist? It said he was an occultist, not sure what that means...- Flag

My husband chose our sons name (Damian) and he named him that because there wasn't that name in either of our families and then he gave a family middle name. Personally I could care less what someone chooses to name their child or why. If it were the name lucifer, I'd kindly ask mom if we could call him something else for short just to prevent a future issue and keep on rocking.
A name is a name and if I were to be the judgmental type then I'd not take kids of parents with tats or piercings.... Or I'd not let my child play softball with a child whose dads name was lucifer.... And then I'd be teaching my children all the judgmental crap that will one day get the junk beaten out of them Ina dark alley.
Personally I'm rather accepting and prefer to base relationships on the person and not their name... Or tats... Or religious preferences.... Etc... I can't teach my kids acceptance if I don't model that behavior.- Flag

I'd have to pass on that family too.
