Shrinky Dink Necklaces

We're doing Shrinky Dink necklaces! Found them on Pinterest.

I am going to experiment w/ it first but we may go with the #6 plastic option. That would be MUCH cheaper, and we could cut out the plastic ourselves instead of using a punch. The only thing would be letting the dcks use permenent markers... Maybe shrinky dink plastic and colored pencils would be better now that I think about it more

We painted 8x10 canvases blue with acrylics, then did 4 handprints in a 'sun' shape, orange at the palm/yellow at the fingertips and I bought fancy lettered stickers and put "You are my sunshine" on each one, Modge Podge sprayed them gloss. They look awe.some. I printed photos of each child signing I love you in sign langage to put on white gift bags that they are going to decorate to 'wrap' them in.

I needed 10 total

We are getting white plates from the dollar store and coloring them with sharpies. It is a treasure that will last. If you bake them in the oven the marker will never wash off.

I actually just read that the Sharpies will come off!

Also, if you bake it make sure you put the plate in there when the oven is cold and let it get up to 350 otherwise they'll break.

They recommended porcelein markers on one website and some even said seal it.

I just used acrylic paint and did not seal it.

The tile was ceramic, not sure if it was glazed (I would say no)

what size tile did you use?

Michael's Crafts has BOTH white plates and/or white coffee mugs WITH markers for $1.50-1.99 a set right now. I think there is 4 markers in the set.

I ordered a couple crafts from oriental trading a few weeks ago, so We are doing a tri fold mothers day card, there is a hand print side and a part with a heart for a picture, and then they can decorate them however they want, and we are doing sun catcher wind chimes, We did the pictures today, and will finish everything else up through the week.

I'm a fan of projects the kids can do with minimal help, I don't think I need to give a parent a gift that had to have "me" do most of the work.
This year we are giving them fruitloop flowers (a picture of a flower with fruitloops pasted on the outline), a plastic spoon with hershey kisses wrapped prett with a "spoon full of kisses" poem.
And a coloured noodle necklace.
My favourite from a past year was teacup planters. I bought each child a teacup and saucer from the Goodwill. Hot glued the cup to the saucer and each child filled the cup with soil and planted a flower. There was a poem that went along with it.
Now I'm focusing more on process crafts more than a "fabulous" gift. It benefits the kids more, even for special days like this one.

I'm pretty sure I bought the stands at Hobby Lobby or Joanns. They are mini easels

The tiles are 5 3/4 X 5 3/4 (or close to)

We are making the footprint butterflies on flowerpots as well, We went today and got some small house plants to put in them and will be focusing on planting and dirt and all that it encompasses this week as our theme (painted the flowerpots last week) Can't wait to see the moms' faces happyface

I got small canvases with stands from the dollar store. They put their handprint on I painted a heart in the middle of their handprint & wrote a saying next to handprint. "I carry your love for me wherever I go" or "I hold your love in my hands and heart"

I remember making these when I was a kid. its simple (maybe more for school age kids than kids under 4), cute, and functional.
