2 years ago we did mini-scrap books using brown lunch sacks- awesome

last year I bought tile at lowes (19 cents each) and put handprint on them and used a paint marker to write happy mothers day 2012. so cute

not sure what we will do this year.

I will see if I can find pictures.....

What kind of paint did you use on the tile and was the tile glazed? This sounds like such a cute idea and I still have one like it that my DD made me in kindergarten 15 years ago! but they baked theirs in a kiln.

Could we paint it, let it dry and ModPodge over it?

I just used acrylic paint and did not seal it.

The tile was ceramic, not sure if it was glazed (I would say no)

We will be making Vanilla Brown Sugar Foot scrub. I found the recipe on Pinterest and looks very simple with basic ingredients. The kids can combine the scrub and decorate their mason jars for Mom. I'm looking forward to doing it and receiving it!

You want to begin by mixing 2 Cups of Brown Sugar and 1 Cup of Granulated Sugar together until there are no lumps. Add in 1 Cup of Sunflower Oil and 1 Tablespoon of Pure Vanilla Extract. {I like to use Sunflower Oil for this body scrub because it does not carry the strong scent that Olive Oil does}

Mix together well and scoop into a sealable glass container.

I'll be making a trip to Costco for sugar and hopefully sunflower oil!

Here are a few things I have from pinterest that I plan on doing this year. I love the idea of the handprint flower pot with a flower in it. I might have to go shopping this weekend

Anyway, this year I primed veggie cans. My students picked out the color of paint they wanted- some required us to mix paints to get a certain color, that was neat. They applied two coats of paint then I set them to dry. The next step was applying their handprint to the cans. Then I used small foam letters to put their names on their handprint. Next the kids decorated their cans with various foam cut outs, felt flowers, etc. Whatever they wanted. Then we filled them with soil and I let the kids pick out what flower seeds they wanted to plant. I took a nice picture of each child planting the seeds, making sure that their name was facing forward on the can. We will then put those pictures in their cards for Mom. It was a bit of work, for sure, we worked on it for over a week and now the flowers are in the process of growing. I think the Moms will really like them, though. happyface

We are giving canvasses painted blue or black as the night sky, glitter stars, with handprints in the shape of a heart and the verse "I love you forever, I'll like you for always, As long as I'm living, My Mommy you'll be" modge-podged on with a picture of them taken here cut into the shape of the heart their handprints made. They actually turned out quite nice, and every step of the craft had something to do with theme we were doing that week (family, Robert Munsch, space) The glitter stars were made by the toddlers sticking their fingers in glue and dotting the sky. I also found a killer deal on these cute shirts that say I love my Mommy. My DS has one and the moms always comment on it, so I bought them each one and am wrapping the present in it. I hope they like it!

My favorite project was the one I did last year with the younger toddlers. We did handprints on glass vases so that it looked like the hands were holding the vases, and then I put faux flowers in them. I used acrylic paint and baked the vases in the oven at 350 for 30 mins (start in a cold oven, put them in and turn it on, leave them in for an hour or so after the 30 mins so they are cool when you take them out) I wrote the child's name on it with a paint sharpie after I baked them because I wasn't sure how the marker would react in the oven.
