I just can't imagine NOT fixing their hair after the rough play, climbing, rolling and digging in dirt and mulch we do... It would be rude not to, IMHO.

I would be verbally crucified if I sent my DCK's home looking the way they do at 5:15.... :::: By 5:30 everyday, they again look like the perfect angels they dropped off... Not the maniacs I ran amok with all day...

Oh, I want to hear these stories....
The only things that I can think of is that she keeps it down because dcgs ears are kind of big and so the hair hides it and it easier to just leave it down after a bath.

When i put it up the one day she came in staring at dcg with the most confused look on her face.
She says "why is her hair up?"
Me:"she got syrup in her hair and we had to wash it out and I didn't think that you wanted her running around with a wet head so I put it up"
Mom:"well, we do what's easy and I let it air dry at home"
Me:"okay, that's fine I was just worried about her being cold"

Trust me, I thought it was the oddest thing. I can only imagine that she thought I was implying that she didn't take the time to do her daughters hair. I wasn't but that's the only thing I can come up with for her attitude about it.

I have only boys right now besides my dd. but, when I have girls that need hair done I happily redo it after nap. one in particular had very long, soft, fine hair that slipped out of all hair ties by the afternoon--especially after nap due to her preference for sleeping with her blanket over her head.

I'm with catherder that it would be rude, or at the very least a tad unprofessional, to send them home a mess.

oh, and a few years back I had a boy who was right around 2.75/3, and I was doing DD"s hair, and every day the dcb would cry, wanting "his turn". He also wanted dd to share her dresses (they were clothes, not dress up!). The boy sweetheart eventually figured it out but for awhile there it was quite the production every day! I was always happy to let him dress up in the fancy princess dresses but not DD's "real" dresses...and I did catch heck from dad once when dad picked up while dcb was in a dress. smh.

I'll be the odd woman out . I hate doing hair (including my own daughters and my own hair ). I don't do anyone's hair unless it's hanging in food (then it's just a ponytail).

I keep the children clean by washing them up after dirty activities (up to and including a bath, at the end of which I will brush longer hair) and changing their clothes if they become soiled. I don't fret with hair though.

And yes, sometimes the kids will go home a tad messier than how they came. In my opinion, that's all a part of being a child . I've sent children home with some paint in their hair (that I could not easily remove) and some minor debris on their clothing (like paint, dirt, food, etc).

The one thing I will do is trim nails if necessary, though .

I do hair, every day. Sometimes it is just a quick fix of a ponytail (or putting one in), sometimes I do more elaborate styles, it depends on how the day is going.

A few weeks ago DCG's mom was out of town for about a week, and her dad was having a terrible time with her hair. It was always brushed, and he tried to do ponytails, but it didn't work out well. I took some time every day to fix her hair. It made her feel special when she was missing her mom.

I've only had trouble with one girl's mom about doing her hair. But she is one parent who you can't make happy no matter what sometimes. Usually the parents are appreciative, and I enjoy doing it.

^ same here. The kids LOVE LOVE LOVE brushing teeth, and they all love looking their best. I have a good looking little group! It's something I go over at interview. I purchase them ouchless plastic rubber bands, and everyone gets a brush and comb set for their cubby as well as a toothbrush, toothpaste and cup to hold them for their cubby. I have never had a parent upset by this. Most love it. One of my dcp's is a dentist and said it was the only place even willing to brush teeth, we even have dinosaur flossers.

Yes I will pull the kids hair up etc. I used to have a little girl in care and mom never brushed her hair in the morning she just finger combed it and put it up in this big knotted mess. I would fix it everyday.

I always comb hair usually boys after nap when it's in a million directions standing up every where and put up or do something with the girls hair, it's fun. Usually parents will bring me the hair ties or whatever and say she wont let me do she wants you to, I don't mind at all.

I do this as well. I have a full manicure set in my class and twice a month, I take "appointments for mani/pedis. I don't mind doing hair. I love the talks I have with my girls while they are in "the chair".
