yes ketchup. it's tasty. mmm meatloaf...i have meatloaf ingredients. it's goood.

If he makes it that way and it works, then go for it! You can probably omit the allspice safely anyway.

(all spice is weirder than ketchup!)

My meatloaf recipe is just ground beef, a pkt. of onion soup mix, a little Worcestershire, garlic and a little catsup. I don't use bread crumbs or egg and it is moist and stays together.

yes, it's usually baked in a bread pan. Or you can do little meatloaf balls in a muffin tin. Those bake faster though, so beware if you try it.

It might fall apart when it's cut, but if Dh does it that way then it's not a big deal .

ooohhhh this sounds easssyyyy... I guess I will have to try that one another time, I don't buy much packaged food, but if it means less time spent to make his dinner I am all for that.

OMG YOU guys ROCK....I am sure my husband would hug all of you too because you are saving his dinner from being uneatable......

            OK silver- no all spice.

he loves Chicken and Pork Apretada, but again, won't try to compete with his mom...

I do have a air cooker?? not the same as crocking pot right??
Yes a crock pot is different. my friend got me one and it changed my life!!

I have attempted to make apretada.... it never turns out like his moms (which is way better than mine).

Seriously though, look into getting a crock pot! I do stews, roasts, etc. And when i make something, i always double the recipe and freeze one in a ziplock, for an easy meal for a future date. then defrost and toss in the crockput

Sometimes I use rolled oats instead of bread crumbs. I usually use a sweet barbeque sauce instead of ketchup and I throw in a package of onion soup mix. But I use a ketchup/brown sugar mixture on top. Yummy!!

If you want to bake the meatloaf the regular way (without a crock pot), since you will not be using meat, you can put it over mashed potatoes. It's really good that way! It won't stay together like a 'loaf' because there is no meat, but it will be delicious on top of mashed potatoes.

I think you can use oatmeal in place of bread/breadcrumbs... I think...

go get the HGTV Food Network Magazine, they have the best meatloaf recipe in it. Its basic step by step.

                              Mix and Match Meatloaf
Preheat oven to 350*. Put 1 1/2 pounds ground meat in a large bowl (choose 1 or a combination) I use more meat but I feed 6 people.
                              1.Pick your meat
                              ground beef
                              ground turkey
                              ground veal
                              ground pork

                              2.Choose a binder
add 1 cup to the bowl with the meat (choose 1)
                              breadcrumbs
                              instant rice
                              cornflakes
                              crackers or croutons, crushed
                              fine bulgur
                              oats (quick cooking or regular)
instant potatoe flakes (use 1/2 cup)

                              3.Pick a Vegetable
prepare 1 to 2 cups: add to bowl
                              carrots, shredded
                              frozen chopped spinach
                              swiss chared kale
                              bell peppers finely chopped
                              mushrooms finely chopped
                              zucchini shredded
                              celery finely chopped
                              (I don't add any veggies)

                              4.choose a mix in (optional)
                              add 1/2 cup total
                              raisins
                              sun dried tomatoes
                              cooked bacon, chopped
                              pickles, chopped
                              walnuts, chopped
shredded cheese (up to 1 cup)

                              5.Bake the meatloaf
Add 1 cup grated onion, 1/4 cup ketchup, 2 tablespoon chopped herbs (parsley, chives, basil and or thyme) 2 eggs, 1tablesppon worcestershire sauce, 1 minced garlic clove, 1 teaspoon kosher salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper and mix with your hands until just combined. Shape into a 9x5 oval loaf on a parchment lined sheet. Bake about halfway, 30min.

                              6. Make a Glaze
brush the top and sides of the meat loaf with a glaze and continue baking until thermometer inserted into the center registers 160* about 25 minutes. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing.

                              classic
mix 1/4 cup ketchup, 2 teaspoons brown sugar and 1 tsp worcestershire sauce
                              (this one was good)

                              spicey barbecue
mix 1/4 cup barbecue sauce, 2 tsp honey, 1 tsp chipolte chile powder and 1 tsp cider vinegar

enjoy. I made this and it was so tender.

I haven't tried it but I've seen recipes that use quinoa in place of breadcrumbs. About 1.5cups to 1lb ground meat I think.
