It's already nasty here today. I have every kid even though some roads are already closed. The schools are closing early/before lunch also. Thankfully I made a massive pot of soup for lunch.
Stay safe everyone!- Flag

My town is directly in the path in NJ. None of my dc kids came today, thank goodness. I just don't want them to be here and lose power, or the parents can't get here to get them and I have them all for 24+ hours. I will likely have tomorrow off as well since that is when the worst is coming.
Everyone be safe!- Flag

My son keeps asking if Sandy Cheeks is here yet. I guess the condition is not funny, but what can you do! I love the guy hiding under the chair!!!- Flag

AEP was going to send crews to the coast...but changed it's mind when they saw the forecast for here. I think they're expecting a lot in the way of power outages here. Sustained winds of 40 mph and gusts over 60 mph is taxing on trees, power lines, poles, etc. Concern is definitely warranted...and then we can feel silly when nothing happens :P
Flashlights, batteries, charge your tech devices, make a plan for staying warm if your power goes out/cooking if the power goes out (gas stove ftw!), where you'll go if the power is out...I see no point in getting jugs of water, for example, but basically prepare like it's going to be a winter storm like the ones we're used to. But without as much snow. And in October.
ETA: The Derecho in June was hurricane strength, for comparison. That 75-80 mph gust that whooshed through here did a crapton of damage and that was one gust! (and that is the strength of a Cat 1 hurricane. Which Sandy is). This is Tropical Storm strength winds and gusts, but more of them over a longer time span.Last edited by SilverSabre25; 10-29-2012, 12:55 PM.Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!- Flag

It's really hard to say. We've had a lot of storms this year that came out of the south west, or straight west. That's the usual direction :P This one is coming directly opposite and I think that poses a risk. Also, the ground is saturated with rain already and that also poses more of a danger.

. I am making my husband see if our generator is working (just in case)...we have never used it and it has been sitting in the garage for years. And our battery back up for our sump pump went yesterday...of course.
My husband is insisting that this is not going to be bad here in Ohio and that the weather men are just exagerating.
I'll be praying for all of you who are in the thick of this storm! For your safety and no damage!- Flag

Winds have started really kicking in now. Our lights have flickered quite a few times. There are about 31 in my county w/o power already. We're just waiting for it to be our turn: (- Flag

I am in western New York (state, not city) and it's been raining and windy all day. They are calling for wind gusts of about 55mph starting around 11pm. I am fully expecting the power to stay on and to go to work tomorrow.
Adding: All the schools in our area are closed tomorrow, but no other businesses. So daycares are going to be full with sa kids. Why even bother closing schools?- Flag
