    What Would You Do ?

What would you do if you had to run a dck to school 2 mornings out of the week b/c the bus never stopped. The first day..yea ok I can see why it happened cause he ran early and I didn't get out the door in time...But today dck was in the driveway, and I was on the porch waving my arms around like a crazy lady and he drove right bye !!! Oh I was so mad. But anyway dcm said she was sorry, and we had to drive him (Me on Monday and dh today) So hear is my question...Would you charge her more for the week for transport ? I do not transport but dck had no other way to get there.

Grant it I only live about 3-4 mins away from the school..but you have to drive it. Idk what to do..I was going to not charge her the reg. rate which is only $6/day since I only have him about 2 hrs a day. But I think I better just leave it..IDK what to do.

why is the bus not stopping?

If it was your fault the kid missed the bus, I don't think it would be fair to charge.
If it was the kids fault or the DCP fault, then yes, I think that is only fair. I would write a contract stating the fee and when it would be charged.

The first day we didn't make it out the door in time and the bus ran early..Today we was out there and he drove right bye us and didn't even look. Mom called the school today to take care of it..so we will see in the a.m. So I had no clue what to do...I have never delt with this before. So I have nothing in my contract cause I never thought of it.

If I were you, I would write something up in your contract regarding this matter.

That is odd that the bus is not stopping for you. Do you have to pay to ride the bus where you live? Here in CA we have to pay for it, so if your voucher is not paid, the bus won't stop.

I think you should call the school also to find out why. maybe the DCM wont tell you everything you need to know.

Call and complain about the bus not stopping the day where out front and mention the day you were not because the bus was early. Why charge the parents for something the bus driver did.

at least in my county you do....CA is dead BROKE..

not only bus fees, but this year I had to pay $100.00 each for my son's sience classes for lab fees. he has two science classes.

my daughter had a $50.00 fee for her ceramics class..

plus we have to pay for agenda and binder reminders..

elementary schools have a supply list that my SIL told me she spent $80 on.

Oh and the final kicker my HS kids lunch cost $5.50 a day and for that they get crap...

              sorry to hijack the thread

You put the bus companys numbe in your phone and call immediately to say the bus did not stop for the child.

Then you insist they come back and pick him up and take him to school

I would not charge for transportation but I could not have done it either. She would have had to come back ant take him if the bus would not come back
                It:: will wait

IMO the parents owe you something. Even though it is not their fault that the bus did not pick up you still had to inconvenience yourself & use your own gas/vehicle to get the child to school. Not sure how far it is from your home, I know you said 3-4 min or so. If it was several miles each way (4-5 or so) that is 8-10 miles- for me that it almost 1/2 gallon of gas (my van only gets about 18-19 mpg). I would at least expect reimbursement for the gas I used, gas sure isn't cheap.

I would not charge the parents. I also wouldnt drive him again. I would call the parents and they have to come get him and take him to school....this will force the problem to become their problem. They should call and get the solution worked out, not you.

I would have called the transportation department to come back for the child - I've done it before and they radio'd the driver and he came right back.

I have in my contract that I am unable to drive a child to school, that I will make sure they are outside at least 5 min. before the scheduled pick up time but in the event they miss the bus it is the parent's responsibility to get them to school. I had a kindergartener all last year and thankfully we never missed the bus!

This is exactly what I would do. The problem is not yours, it is up to the parents to deal with the transportation dept about this.

I would never charge the parents. They have absolutely nothing to do with the bus driver messing up. What I WOULD do is raise heck with the bus service!! I have had this happen, and as the bus drove away, I immediately called their dispatch and said we have a child that was not picked up at X address. They'll just have to come back to get him, that's all there is to it. If they give you grief, just say that you do Daycare and have several babies, and cannot transport. This is the BUS SERVICE people's fault, nobody else's. And certainly not the parents'. Be pro-active and assertive. Tell them that it has happened numerous times and you're not happy about it. You have the right to complain!!

I have to agree and disagree
If it is the fault of the provider the child missed the bus then they should be responsible for getting the child to school

I also feel it should hold same for the parent.
If the parent causes the child to be late and miss the bus they either come back and take them to school or you charge them and take them.

If you know you are on time you then do what others said and call the dept of transportation and make the bus come back.
