Where Do You Hang DCK's Coats?

I'm tired of them being on the floor already this year! There really is no room in their cubbies for them and cannot for the life of me figure out where to put them.

Had the greatest idea of a little coat rack on a wall in my kitchen. Hubs nixed that and said he really doesn't want them hanging there in the way. UUGGHH! They wouldn't be in the way but he says if they get forgotten then they will just be hanging there in the way. They wouldn't get forgotten because I was going to put a little crate below it to hold the shoes. Stop get the shoes/coat and be on your way.

Seriously it was 100 degrees yesterday and was in the high 50's yesterday morning and I had kids wearing parkas! Its been this way all week. By 8:00/8:30 you can seriously go outside without anything so I don't know why oh why we need to wear big winter jackets.

I just put together the preschool room the way I like it and now I'm going to have to tear it apart and rearrange to find a place to put coats!

mine go right in the hall closet - I have it double hung, my kids jackets are on the bottom and the dck's jackets go on the top bar. I even have the hanger labeled with their name. Parents are responsible for hanging it up upon entering and taking it when leaving (unless I already have it on child ready for them to get out the door, LOL).
If they are forgotten I don't care, but then they have to wait till Monday to get it!

I spray pained a section of a 2x4, screwed coat hooks to it and attached it right to the wall by my daycare entry wall. Takes up virtually no room at all and it keeps the coats off the floor, side tables, my desk etc. In the end it cost me maybe $10.

If you're interested in something like that let me know and I'll add a picture

I made a large entryway bench, it stores the cubbies on the top and has enough coat hooks for coats and backpacks for each kiddo, plus room for 8 pairs of shoes on the bottom (more if I add another row, which I plan to)

I just toss them on the sofa in the livingroom. I use to have hooks along the wall in the playroom, but that's where I keep one of the pac and plays now. Try using the 3M hooks and find out where it works best for your set up.l

That was my plan! You have to go through my kitchen to get to the preschool room and was to me the best plan. Would keep everything out of the livingroom-happyface.

OK, time to get tough! I threaten to take it recliner he likes to keep out of the preschool room to relax in in the evenings if I can't hang the coat rack!::

I've been thinking of doing this for backpacks for my own kids. Do you think that would work or would they rip right out with the heavy weight of a school aged kids backpack??
Would love to see a picture!

I was worried about that too, so I made hubby use giant screws and put them right into the studs.

When I first put it up it was quite the novelty item, kids would literally try to hang onto the hooks with their hands and hang off them like monkeys. The thing still didn't budge.

If you're really worried about it though you could definitely do smaller sections of just 2 or 3 hooks, space the hooks out a lot farther, or even forget the 2x4 and use those giant screws to screw individual hooks right into the studs.

Uploading picture to pb now, just a sec....

Certainly nothing fancy, but it was so inexpensive, gets the job done, and will minimize damage to my entry way wall should I ever discontinue doing daycare and want to take it down.

I have a coat rack with 5 hooks in the entryway near my front door. I hang all diaper bags and coats there. 1 of my DCKs started preschool and another started Kinder this year so I was thinking about adding a second rack just like the first right under it. The top would be for backpacks and diaper bags so the really little ones don't get into them and the one on the bottom can be for the coats and jackets.

It takes no space at all and keeps the clutter up and away. I like to use the cubbies for thing like extra clothes and diapers so the cubbies are already full of that stuff like yours. The rack workes great and you can do as the above post says and make one yourself so it's more your style.

thanks for the pic!! That's what I'm thinking of doing - maybe bigger hooks for backpacks. I think using the 2x4 is better because you can get that right into the studs - to space hooks themselves evenly I wouldn't be able to use all studs since those are 16" apart. Sorry to highjack OP!!

I have a small entrance attached to the kitchen. I have an iron coat rack in the shape of horseshoes with enough coat hooks for all the dcks. I make them little name labels for each different season and they hang their coats there. There is a boot tray under for their shoes. It is nice to have everything in its place and out of the way, especially in winter when they have ski-pants too. In the winter I hang ropes with clothespins near the heater in the entrace. Each rope has a name labelled above it and the kids pin their gloves and hats on it. It works good

The school bags come inside and are placed in the living room next to the kitchen out of the way.

I have hooks in my playroom for bags and coats. I also have one bicycle hook above to hang infant seat on. I hate them being down because little ones like to play in them!

do you have a pic of your entry way then we help visualize it better. I have a closet right now, but when the enterance way changes (only for the daycare parents) then I will have some sort of hook thing. Look on pintrest they have alot of idea.

I did buy a bench that has a cushion ontop and 3 openings (you put the those fabric bins in) so I can put spare stuff in it. As soon as dh puts the finishing touches in that room I'll show everyone, it looks nothing like the pics I posted.

Seriously, until hubby offers a better idea , he can **** it up. Put the coat hooks in the kitchen - if coats get forgotten, owell. My hubby helps give me ideas for how to organize, design, decorate and operate my business, but most certainly has no say in the final decisions.
