I have a set of 5 hooks right at the entrance where they are hung (out of the way). I have found that parents are better about not letting them pile up if they can see them right off.

I was going to do the bookcase idea as I was remodeling the room but i found my cushion thing instead. I was going to add plywood to the back of the bookcase so it was sturdy and I can put the hooks in the plywood. I like the fact that I could add greenery and it would look nice still.

                I have this from DSS:

It's hard to see in the picture, but each section has 2 hooks. I put the child's spare clothes in the top basket, their shoes and stuff to take home in the bottom basket, and coats on the hooks. I've actually never used the hooks yet (I installed this in May and we don't need coats here from April to October). I wanted everything stored up and far away from the kids because we were having a lot of issues with playing "dress-up" with other people's shoes, which turned into a fight ("little Johnny has MY shoes **insert best whiny voice here**").
