Termed DCB Ruined My Weekend :( And The Lessons I Learned From Him

So I'be been posting about the dcb I termed with the 2 weeks notice bc of the parents not following the diarrhea illness policy.

My dd, and now my best friend's dd both got sick over the holiday weekend. Both family's weekends were ruined.

We are going on our family week long vacation this upcoming weekend. I am praying I can keep our family healthy!

I have 3 more days of this kid due to my contract. If I didn't need the money I would tell them today he is not welcome anymore.

    Things I have learned:

    1. I will be sending any child home for loose stools or diarrhea the first time it occurs, and they must remain home for 24 hours.

    2. I will use my backbone. The parents kept bringing him back throughout the week, saying he was okay. They lied.

    3. I will term sooner. I allowed these people to bend my illness policy too many times. It is my fault. I created a monster. This will not happen again.

    5. I will have an immediate term clause in my contract.

    6. I will have an immediate term clause in my 2 weeks notice.

    7. I will make parents pay their 2 weeks notice in advance before any service is rendered.

    8. I will use my backbone. I will use my backbone. I will use my backbone.

I just had my house professionally cleaned today but put myself in the bad position of having to have the money for the rest of the week. I will not put myself in that position again. Now germ boy is going to come tomorrow and get my house all germy again before he leaves forever.

Sorry you had such a bad experience, but it sounds like you have learned your lesson! Hopefully things will go well this week. Good luck with your new backbone!

Thank you! When I got into this business I never expected people to be so inconsiderate and awful. Was I in for a shock!

Sorry they got sick. Please send him home tomorrow if he shows any signs. Also maybe try and keep him away from the others as much as you can without it being too noticable.

Hope those three days goes quickly!

Is it at all possible to spend the majority of the next 3 days outdoors (ASSUMING that he doesn't come in tomorrow sick and you have to send him home again)?

That's a great idea, but I am not sure how today is going to go since my other dcp's of my twins said they are potty training and are bringing their kids in underwear only. (see thread: parents refusing to bring diapers). I'm in a daycare lull- maybe I will just take the little potty outside?

Was number 4 a secret lesson to remember? LOL, I'm happy you know what to change. I actually just eliminated my two weeks pre-payment. I'm not in a struggle for income, but I'm ALWAYS paid in advance for the week, just no more final two weeks upfront. I charge an enrollment fee now.

LOL! Not such a secret anymore!

He just had diarrhea again just now!

We are now on week 3 with diarrhea for this kid.

I am also adding a doctor's note clause.

Oh UGH! I hope you sent him home again! I wouldn't let him back without a Dr's. note that stipulates that the Dr. is aware the child has been having diarrhea for 3 weeks and is well enough to attend. Enough is enough!

Open your windows and get some fresh air in there - you don't need to be sick this weekend!

                      You need to call CPS.

Good call on the windows! I usually do that but it has been so hot lately. I went ahead and did it last night- thankfully it was cool enough to do so!

I posted a thread about whether or not I should call CPS about this and the general consensus was no.

I too, feel that there is something awry here. 2 other children caught this illness from this child and were mended 3 days later- this child obviously has another issue since he is going on 3 weeks. The parents are so clueless- which is hard to imagine because they are upper middle class, good citizens, church members, etc.

I guess I just wouldn't expect this kind of neglect coming from these people. Something is not right though!

I wonder if it's possible the child has been on a barrage of antibiotics in the past and has that awful C-diff?

My brother had that and wasn't right in the guts for months!

I don't know. If he has the parents have said nothing to me at all about him being on any sort of medication. Hmmm...I wonder if I need to add to my PHB that the parents should disclose any medication the child in on in the event of an emergency? Does that violate HIPAA?

Honestly though it smells like on-going Rotovirus.
