    If the child is playing and being distracted then this is what I would do too. If the child was just clumsy and just dropped and spilled food alot then I'd just have DCB sit near me and possibly in his own space (with a dropcloth). I've had clumsy kids too that daily spilled food and drinks and once I started having them sit by me so that I could keep them focused they got better. Either they just realized that they needed to pay attention and focus on what they are doing or they just got tired of having to eat their meals with me "micromanaging" . Either way it works for me. I also don't replace spilled drinks or dropped food. If they drop food then it gets picked up emmediately and tossed no matter what it was. If they spill their drink they get to help wipe it up and they don't get more (to teach consequences and responsibility) unless they want water.
