I am looking to open an in home daycare in Indiana. I was wondering if there are any dog breed restrictions that would prevent me from receiving a daycare license?
What breed do you have? I live in Michigan and have a Bloodhound and a Giant Schnauzer, I have never had a problem. The bloodhound is pretty old so she sleeps most of the day, otherwise she is outside. The Giant Schnauzer is young but spends his days sleeping in his crate or outside. My dogs are very gentle but they are still dogs and kids are kids so I don't allow much interaction, I'm not willing to take any chances.
This probably doesn't help much because I don't live in the same state, sorry!
I'd call your animal regulations department or local animal shelter and ask them if you aren't sure. I live in CA and we don't have any regulations through licensing about any animals including dogs but if you are becoming licensed you should contact them and ask them too.
The only thing that I ever came across that seemed to be a problem was actually through my insurance company for Gunner our dog so you may want to check with your insurance company if you have insurance for your daycare or planning on it I'd check with them also. No big deal really for me but they just said that he was a "dangerous" breed (he's a German Shepherd so I'm guessing because he's a large breed dog) so if any accidents should happen because of him the insurance wouldn't cover it. This is easily fixed by just keeping him in the small yard during DC hours.
Aside from restrictions and insurance issues, you will want to think about potential clients. No matter how gentle, if you have a breed with a bad reputation or a dog that is intimidating in any way, you may finder it harder to get new clients.

VERY GOOD POINT!
I have an adorable miniature schnauzer and some parents are still uncomfortable with it.
I live in NY and we don't have any breed restrictions. They don't even need proof that they are utd on shots and immunizations. I have a 60lb pit/rott mix and no parent or the state has ever been concerned. I also have a 80lb German shepherd/rhodesian mix. Both are extremely friendly and well behaved so there is no reason for parents to be concerned.
We have an American Staffordshire Terrier and we do have an outside dog run that he can be kept in during hours. I know that we don't have any local breed specific laws and our insurance company will not cover us if we own an American Pitbull Terrier (which we don't have).

Oh yes this is true. Gunner the german shepherd is a very large dog. Abnormaly large actually or so I've been told by our vet. He weighs 110 lbs and stands taller than me on his hind legs (i'm typically 115 lbs soaking wet before pregnancy and 5'5" ) and I've had potential clients become anxious when I intoroduce them to him. Once they realize that he's well behaved and trained they don't mind it but I also have a cat living in the home that is de-clawed and a small 6 lb chihuahua that loves the kids but I get phone calls that end as soon as I mention either the dogs or cat due to allergies.
We have four dogs! Generally, people are good with it, but I get a few raised eye-brows here and there! Once they meet our happy little puppy farm they are usually fine with it!
We have a Brittney, a Golden, and two Teddy Bear's!
I know on post there is a large list of dogs not allowed (Pit bulls, rotweillers, dobermans, wolf hybrid, etc.). Off post though Pit bulls are extremely common here in HI! I myself have a 9lb Maltese and 11lb Bichon which the daycare kids LOVE! I do have a waver I have the parents sign stating they know the kids interact with the dogs and if there was anything to ever happen I would be held completely responsible. My dogs have never bit anybody in there two years of life and are very well trained. Plus my husband is allergic to dogs and our dogs don't effect him since they are hypoallergenic (they don't shed). Parents seem to like that little tid bit when I tell them.
my son was bitten by a tiny boston terrier just a few weeks ago. not at daycare - he was in my mom's yard and the dog ran out of his yard through an electric fence and bit him for no reason whatsoever.
all the owner kept saying was, "he's never done this before" which really meant crap to me. before this ever happened, i had always told my kids to never pet a dog or walk up to dogs even if they were on a leash just to prevent that kind of thing. some people would be uncomfortable with a dog being around restrictions or not.
i have a wimpy 8 lb dog and i still don't ever let her around the kids. no matter how cute and sweet you think they are -they're still animals.

I'm not sure what you mean by the bolded statement. Are you saying that those breeds are banned in order to get a daycare license? I'm confused...
