I have one daughter that is 13-wears a size 10 girls jean and weighs maybe 65lbs on a good day!
She hasn't been to the doctor in quiet awhile but was measuring in the 5-10% on the charts. As a baby she was always on the 95% + because she was sooooooo big. About 3 years old she started losing all her weight and really slowed down in growth. I can still remember how tiny she was when she went to kindergarten. Funny thing is she's my healthiest child!
My one son was still in toddler clothes when he went to kindergarten! He's stocky but was also pretty small. Each day is a fresh start
Never look back on regrets

We only get one shot at this!!

It's not the weight that concerns me as much as the weight in relation to height.
My girls are very underweight and always have been but they eat LOTS of food, exercise and get lots of time outside so the only thing I worry about is getting enough calories into them. My doctor has never been concerned because she knows how active they are and how well they eat. But to look at their stats.......uh........they don't look so good.My 8 year old is so underweight that I actually had a pharmacy call me last year and ask her weight to make up a prescription because they thought it was a typo. She is 48lb and a size 4-5 around the waist but 8-10 in leg length. My 13 year old is a size 10 girls around the waist with a 28" inseam and is only 74 lb. Both are average height for their ages or taller than average.
I think you have to look at the whole picture. Diet, activity, height and body type of the parents are all very important considerations for me too.- Flag

I care for a 4 month old who weighs 20 pds. He's the cutest little budda baby ever!! Mom and dad are tall over 6 feet and grandma is very tall at 6 5" I believe. Older brother is tall also for 3 yrs old and he isn't fat but he is def. stocky. I have no ideal how much he weights.
As they matured both of my children are both on the very thin side so I believe that early on it's not a big deal.
I'm thinking they were somewhere in the 25-28lb. size at 1 but then things slowed way down from there out.
I guess if they are on target with motor skills that it's OK.
But... once they are no longer a toddler, you shouldn't be seeing any rolls on them.
It's difficult to stand by and watch a mother allow her child to eat themselves into obesity. When they struggle to run one loop around the playground and have to sit down because their little faces are so red and there's sweat streaming off of their head.
You wonder what their Pediatricians are telling them. I know they are supposed to be doing the body fat indication at check ups. Hopefully they are letting the parents know when they are on the high side.
My kids were extremely thin but a Pediatrician has never told me that they needed to gain weight. Perhaps it's the same with those that are heavy.- Flag
