    Can this be Healthy?

someone posted on another forum that her 11 month old is 35 lbs already....is that even healthy? I have never heard of such a huge child....can this be natural for a kid to be that big? I am not trying to offend by asking the question, I have just never heard of such a huge baby before.

I dont see how. My four year olds weigh about 40 lbs. A baby weighing almost as much as a four year old doesn't seem right.

wow!! my son is the opposite, he's 4 and barley weights 30lbs. He is also tiny for his age in height too. He is the oldest in my group currently and is the smallest. poor guy

I am not good with infants/babies, but that sounds really big...

That child would be pretty pudgy unless s/he is really tall. Which happens. I had a dck who was 25lbs at 6mo when he started with me. He was huge, but scooting/almost crawling...walked before a year old. The family moved overseas before he was 2yo, but at a year is was way over 30lbs. He was as tall as the 2.5yo I had at the time. This kid was solid, but not fat at all. His parents were both over 6 feet tall themselves.

At the same time, I had another child with really tall parents...he was average weight, but freakishly tall...and always looked like he hadn't been fed for weeks (but ate everyone out of house & home).

As long as everyone stays on track developmentally, I am not one to get overly concerned about weights with babies/toddlers.

Ugh, I can't imagine carrying a baby around of that size... and I work out...

Wonder what they are feeding the baby that he is so big? Is it genetics?

My son was 34 pounds at 12 months. Off the top of my head I don't remember how tall he was, but he was and still is a tall boy. He never had an ounce of fat on him. He was crawling at 6 months and walking at 9. At a year old when I went grocery shopping he would carry a gallon milk jug from the entry way to the refridgerator. When he was 14 months he would empty the wood cart in to the wood container for the wood we burnt in the house. I was in my last trimester with my next child and I had a hard time doing it. I know that it wasn't easy for him to do it, but he emptied 3 totes of wood in to the wood box every evening. He is a very active boy who ran and played hard from sun up to sun down. My husband and I would watch him play. He never sat. He would squat while pushing his little cars or trucks around. One afternoon I fallowed his movements. I squated and stood up when he did. Held the squatting position when he did. After 15 mins my legs were shot(and I work out daily with excerises that include squats and lunges). My legs were like jello and I could hardly breath. And my son did/does that all day long. He use to love to just be in a diaper and you could see every mucle in his legs and upper arms and shoulders. He had legs I'd die for. Today he is 3 years old and 5 months. He weighs 53 pounds and is over 3 1/2 feet tall( can't quite remember the exact inches). When I go pick up kids at the school he is taller than 95% of the kindergardners and 60% of the 1st graders. I have been greatly worried about his weight. According to a hight weight chart it does say that he is on the heavier side, but the doctor told me that he is not over weight. His body fat level is lower than what it should be. He said that he is healthier that children that fell where they should be or below on the weight chart with soft little bottom, stomaches, and legs. He is big boned. He has big hand, big feet, and wide wrists. This fall he helped stack wood outside for the big wood burning stove and he carried as much as his 13 year old sister at a time. He doesn't look like a twig by any means. He can't wear skinny pants because they are to tight in his normal size. With clothes on he almost looks like he could be stocky, but once he is down to his undies you see every muscle line. I would love to have a body like that.

wow Nellie, sounds like quite a little guy you got there! I think the difference though is that this mom has said that her child is not hitting milestones and is not tall or otherwise advanced in proportion to the weight.....I think that is the thing that was surprising me.

Yeah I'm going to go with, it could be, but I'm betting dollars to donuts that it's not. My 4 yo doesn't even weigh 40 lbs yet and she's 75th percentile for weight!

I care for a 4 month old who weighs 20 pds. He's the cutest little budda baby ever!! Mom and dad are tall over 6 feet and grandma is very tall at 6 5" I believe. Older brother is tall also for 3 yrs old and he isn't fat but he is def. stocky. I have no ideal how much he weights.
