Do you not believe in little ones having access to these things Nan? My scissors, hole punches, markers, glue, and crayons sit on my preschool table all the time. The kids never bother with it unless we are doing a project. I had one little boy one time, he was three that almost fainted when he saw everything. I asked his mom what was wrong and she said "he is soooo excited happyface about all that, as the last provider didn't allow any art stuff what so ever." I had never fathomed that someone wouldn't have that kind of stuff out or available to children-
No I don't give infants access to scissors. I know my skill set and believe it when I say I couldn't manage it. I also wouldn't like the liability that would come along with an accident when I KNOWINGLY gave access to something that the manufacturer (who is entrusted with public safety with their product) says is not for the age group I'm giving it to.

Should something happen to the child that could have been preveneted by waiting until the child was developmentally able to use safely... the FIRST thing you are going to be asked is why in the world would you give a baby scissors?

We aren't really artsy here. We don't have any art supplies out for free play. I'm not much into crafts. They do more of that stuff at home. I like building, puzzling, and free play of toys more than crafting. We have a slammin toy collection so they can get their fine motor on with the toys.

I have four moms that are super uber crafty. I don't know if they would give their kid under two scissors tho. I doubt it. I think they would be none to happy with me if I did.

My parents all see it out at the interview and just love that its available. In all my years as a provider not one parents has ever said anything about it. Many of mine have been "crafty" moms and always did something along with their children so they were usually exposed to it at home.

One of my moms did some florist stuff at home and always had things out working on arrangements and stuff. Little one never bothered any of that-flowers out, wiring, ribbon all that kind of stuff. So I think most of mine have been exposed to craft things at home before coming here.
