When working in a center, I termed 3 children in a 3-year period and had a few others that after some very serious talking with the parents about the changes we needed them to make, the parents pulled the kids. We just could not meet the needs of any of these children in that setting (24 kids in one room).

In my home preschool (been in business for 14 months), I haven't termed anyone yet, have had one child that I thought about it after several frustrating days, but now this child is wonderful, so I'm glad I stuck it out!

I have not termed anyone in 11 years. And in the 11 years I have only had 2 families argue with me about paying a 2 week notice even when they were pulling their children to stay home with family and thought it wasnt fair?

I have wanted to term kids over their parents, but sending out a reminder that parents had to sign about whatever their parents were doing wrong solved the problems. I have never "really" wanted to term a child for behavior issues, but have wanted to because of a smell. But I worked through it ( as it was his grandmas cooking"indian food" ) but mom offered to bring him in his hat and pjs and i threw those in a bag on the front porch and dressed him in other clothes that she left here.

Twice in 9 years.........once because of parental behavior and once because of the child's behavior that I could not improve after 3 mos and it was beginning to affect the other children in care. OH just remembered one other one and that was also because of a parent. Parents are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much harder to care for than the little ones aren't they ????!!!!

I think* I am up to 5 in , now, 18 years. (I opened in October. My favorite time of the year!!) No. Strike that. 1994 makes it 17 years...right? I hate math. See why I like one rate

The asterisk is because two or three took my recommendation to "find more appropriate care" for their child's behavior. No actual termination required and ended peacefully.

I only remember the Parents I termed.

Sadly, I kind of have to terminate EVERYONE because nobody ever seems to feel the age cut off applies to their child (4). They are always the exception.

They go through the five stages everytime. Like I am shunning them from my family.

The ironic thing is that I tell ALL OF THEM this in the interview and they all say they same thing "Oh, I won't get upset by that!! I would not want my sweet, helpless, newborn surrounded by "school aged kids"!!"

Aug 1st after their 4th birthday (with their last day being the day before preschools official start).

Preschool is free here. Part of the public school system.

I can't find the resources to compete with free.

The regs here for small providers (6 max) who keep kids past 4 are too restrictive and cost prohibitive.

I've been open 21 months and have not termed anyone. There was one that I should not have accepted past the first two weeks' trial. There were two that I probably should have termed but left for their own reasons before I could. There was one that left for a maternity leave and was supposed to come back with the sibling, but I had decided to tell the mom no (infant and high-needs 20 month old two days a week? nothankyou). She didn't ever contact me about starting again so that worked out nicely.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

3 times in 10 years, 2 was because of 2 DCBs behavior, and the other was because of a parent kept paying late.

I wish I had this policy...maybe I will start it. There is a preschool at the public school it just started this year, but it is soo hard to get into (not enough spaces) 2 of my kids go there and the others go to paid Christian preschools.....all still pay there full time rates, but the comign and going is killing me..

I have One that comes for 20 minutes in the morning and then in is picked up for school

two/three that come back at 11:30

                        two that leave at 12:15

one/two that comes back at 3.

I am constantly puting on shoes and coats and watching for parents not to mention saving lunch for two kids each day.....two kids go M- TH but the other four are a mix of M-W and T-TH aoh and the one that also goes on F. AGH!!

                        It is driving me crazy!!

                          2 in 10 years.

#1 was because the mom had bounced checks & couldn't pay them(her bank held 3 checks and bounced them all at once). It was about $800 in money for services rendered plus nsf fees. She filed ch7 bankruptcy and included this, so never got any of that money.

#2 was very recent...I went from a normal daycare M-F, to a part-time, temporary full-time, rotating schedules, or drop-in only...I only have the one full-timer, so he had to go. Mom was wanting more of a formal preschool curriculum for him anyway, so it wasn't going to last much longer regardless...

once in 10 years.... because I could not meet the needs of the child. parents were in denial that there were any issues (mental delays/autism, etc).

I'm knid of surprised by the low numbers most people post considering how often the advice given here is so often "term them".

I had the same thing and they felt that they should pay LESS since they were "here" less. (pre-school free until 12)

Twice the disruptions, retraining, back up for closings, juggling schedules and work in general for half pay? Nah.

That is the only way I could end the nightmare here.

                              Sorry for the hijack, OP.
