I need care for my kids. This would be 3-4 nights per week on a rotating schedule from 8p-8a. Responsibilities are making sure my 3, 4 and 7yo stay in bed, letting the dog out, and making sure the house doesn't burn down. In the morning the person would have to bring 1 child to school using my vehicle. Compensation would include room and board, a vehicle to use with gas card, and cell phone. Since there is not much to this job, I'm struggling with deciding how much a fair rate is. I'm essentially paying some one to sleep at my house. My husband will be home at 7 a to dress kids and take 2 to school. So what's a fair wage? We live in Memphis, Tn

I don't really know a fair wage for a nanny in the area, but saying "there isn't much to the job" isn't fair. You have to factor in the hours that they are there because those are hours that they are working and can't just go do what they want. If you were a company and paying hourly, you would be required to pay a fair wage, because you are requiring them to be there. You are likely looking more to pay a weekly or monthly rate, but keep the above in mind. Sure you can probably find someone super cheap, but do you really want to spend your hours away wondering what is going on in your home while you are at work and your children are sleeping? Sometimes you really do get what you pay for. Just something to keep in mind.- Flag
