    New Member Question On Rates:

Hi there, I am new to the daycare business. I should of gotten my inspection today but my specialist is sick. She will call and reschedule when she gets in the office.
I have a 2 month old baby that I will be taking care of and the parents has asked me will I still charge them when they take vacation. My answer was yes as this holds your child's position in the daycare. I think that is the norm for all daycare providers and centers. Please help with this question?

    Thanks,
    Michelle~happyface

Different areas are diff in what is "normal" around them tho. Do you know of it is common practice in your area?
I charge half my weekly rate for my vacation weeks and full daily rate for most federal holidays.
Some providers charge more weekly so they get vacation pay without the parents knowing it.
      How did they react?

          Thanks for the answer's

They haven't messaged me back which I am a little worried about but I'm sure all will be good. I hope? When I met with the dad about 4 months ago, I told him that they would have to still pay he said he understood because it's a business. The hard bit is I know them on a personal level.
Are you a home based business or a center? I am a home based business.

I am a family child care provider. ALL spaces are paid for on a weekly rate and tuition payments are based on enrollment NOT attendance.

It shouldn't matter if you know them on a personal level or not. They are purchasing services and the costs for you to provide care do not change if the child is absent. You are still required to have certain requirements met.

Just like a gym membership. Your monthly fee is the same regardless of how little or how much you go...

Welcome to the forum. I am also in MD. I am in the process of opening as well. From what I have seen here in centers as well as home daycares they charge regardless of attendance. Some home daycares charge 1/2 the weekly rate for vacations and some charge a flat rate no matter what.

I give my parents 2 weeks of vacation a year. That is for planned vacations, not sick days etc. And it must be used a week at a time with advance notice.

Hi and welcome! I give my families 1 week of vacation a year and they pay for 1 of my vacations a year, so it evens out. None of my families have had a problem with it.
