    CCIS Pa

Hi! Just need a little guidance on qualifying for assistance for child care in PA. After an initial inquiry performed online about whether my family of 5 qualifies for assistance, the answer returned to me said that we were not eligible for assistance. Here is what they say you need to have in order to be eligible:

In order to qualify for subsidized child care you and, if applicable, your spouse or live-in companion must:

Work an average of at least 20 hours a week or work an average of at least 10 hours a week and attend training an average of at least 10 hours a week.
Have gross annual family income that is under 200% of the Federal Poverty Income Guideline
Have at least one child under 13 years of age needing child care.

    These are the income guidelines:
Family Size Maximum Gross Yearly Family Income
    1 $22,980
    2 $31,020
    3 $39,060
    4 $47,100
    5 $55,140
    6 $63,180

Having gross family income that is 200% or less than the FPIG for a family of 5 means that my income and my spouse's income cannot exceed $110,280 combined correct?? If this is the case, then I do not understand why I would be denied in the first place.

Anyone with knowledge of this, please help! Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A family of five can't make more than $55,140 , it's not double. That's TOTAL FAMILY INCOME.

    At least that's my understanding.

It looks like the figures above ARE the 200% figures. They've already doubled them for you. I googled "federal poverty income guidelines" and the following link was at the top of the list. It lists $27,570 as the federal poverty level for a family of five, so 200% of that would be $55,140.

If I'm understanding all of this correctly.

I looked it up because I was thinking, gee, if 100K for a family of 5 qualifies for assistance then I'm worse off than I thought!

OOPS! Forgot to add the link: http://www.familiesusa.org/resources...uidelines.html
